Kaiden's POV
I felt sad leaving the Dasos forest because I never expected this to happen; I thought I still have more days to spend with Ana, and as much as I want to ask her not to go with her family on a trip, I know I don't have the heart to hold her back because I can tell it was her only wish to be recognized by her own family. I pity my girlfriend, and how I wish I can bring her to our Kingdom and make her my wife, but my father is very excited about the search for the Crown Princess of Dracousia, and I could never take her there because she is a witch, and worst a powerless witch.
I was careful that Ana would never find out I was using my dragon power and not a potion. I teleport in going back to the Dracousia Kingdom, and I can feel the heaviness of my heart as I walk on the palace ground; I am still thinking about Ana that I haven't notice Prince Lucas was walking beside me that when he speaks, I almost jump on my feet.
"Are you okay, Prince Kaiden? I think you are in trouble because this is the first time I saw you this way, and it seems you are in deep thought. You were startled when I call your name, and this never happens before that your mind is somewhere else. You are always alert and ready to fight, but right now, I could tell if I use my power over you, I could have defeated you." He declared, and I stopped walking and faced him, then I looked at him in his eyes.
"I am not okay, Prince Lucas; Ana will go with her entire family to the mountain of Thesirea to visit some of their relatives. I don't want her to go, but I know it will make her happy if she can spend some of her time with her family. They will always ask her to stay in their house because they are ashamed of her identity, they don't want anyone from Thesirea to know that she has no magic because it would bring shame to the entire family, and I know it was absurd." I declared.
"Wow! So, that is why you looked so lovesick? Kidding aside, yes, that is illogical. Ana's parents should treat their children fairly. It would not be her fault if she were born without magic. Can you imagine if we are like her? I mean, look at the children of the dragon shifters who can't transform. Since they can never shift into real dragons, they become the knights of our kingdom. They are still helpful because even if they can't fly and have limited powers, they can still fight because of their exceptional stamina and endurance. After all, they have dragon blood." Prince Lucas responded, and I understand what he means.
"I think your girlfriend has some powers deep inside her that still need to be discovered." He added.
"You have a point, Prince Lucas, but King Julius does not care about his citizens who have no magic; he never protects them with his decree. That is why most of the mages used potions to avoid the mockery of others. Can you imagine being a witch, but you can't make even a minor spell?" I asked, and he nodded.
"I felt frustrated because I expect I can still see her on the coming days before the tournament will start." I said.
"Well, maybe it happens with a purpose because something changes about the tournament, and that is why I was waiting for you because your father asked me to take you to the throne room the moment you get back from your daily adventures. Your father thought you were hunting for the dragon witch." He said, and I am confused about what he means.
"Why? What changed?"
"Your father decided to end the screening on the next day." He replied.
"What? But why?" I asked, confused why the Dragon King suddenly decided to stop the screening.
"I don't know why; maybe he will tell you about it, and I think we should go now because he has been waiting for you." He said, and I nodded.
"So, does it mean only two days left for the screening?" I asked.
"Yup, and it would be expected tomorrow, and on the following day, many ladies would come, and I can tell they are all beautiful ladies because your father emphasized beauty, brain, and power. And for me, it should be beauty and brain only because you are strong and very powerful, and I am sure your offsprings would be robust." Prince Lucas responded, and I shook my head.
"I don't know why my father was looking for a mighty dragon when I can protect my future wife. But I believe this tournament has one primary purpose, and it is summoning the Dragon Witch because he is so desperate to have her, even though he already asked me to hunt her down. I became so busy spending my time with Ana lately that I didn't get the chance to search the dragon witch." I responded.
"Well, you know, ever since I want to meet her, and I want to ask you to be gentle with her, she was innocent." Prince Lucas said, and I smile.
"You know what, based on your words, I think you are falling in love with that witch even if you haven't seen her yet," I said, laughing.
"Maybe, but I am sure she is not evil, Prince Kaiden, and I wish I will have the opportunity to meet her in the future, and you have to promise me. You will not hurt her, Prince Kai, because she is innocent. It is not hurt fault to be born that way." He said, and Lucas was right. The dragon witch was innocent. She was only twelve years old when she commanded the dragon armies present during the tournament seven years ago.
The dragon bowed their heads to her, and that was when my father realized she was the dragon witch. And she has been gone without a trace for seven years, yet my father believes she is still alive. That is why he recruited Cordelia to work for him. She was known as one of the most powerful witches in the Thesirea Kingdom next to Slyvia, the mother of the dragon witch, and the wife of Emeric, the last golden dragon, and the real heir of our kingdom, but my father killed him in front of the palace ground because he was so afraid if Emeric will claim the throne one day. And right now, my father is desperate to find the dragon witch not only because she was the remaining heir of the dragon world but because of her precious heart who can turn anyone into an immortal. For me, that prophecy may sound so stupid, but I can't say it to my father's face.
"Yeah, you are right, but I don't have a choice. I need to bring the dragon witch to my father, so I can be King because that is the only way I can take Ana as my wife. I don't aspire to be king, Prince Lucian, and you know that, but after I meet her, my outlook in life got changed because of my desire to spend the rest of my life with her." I declared.
"Oh, Prince Kaiden, I didn't realize you are very much in love with this witch." He responded.
"Yeah, I know," I said, and I can't stop myself from thinking about Ana, and I wish to see her again soon because six months is too long without seeing her.
Our conversations stopped as we get inside the Palace entrance, and I know we can't talk about this to anyone since it would be our secret. I can't tell anyone about Ana unless our laws will change, or else I will get into trouble if someone will know that I am having a relationship with a witch.
"Prince Kaiden! I am glad you came, come, son." My father greeted me, and his voice reverberated the entire throne room, and I can tell he has good news for me.
"Good evening, father!" I greeted him, and he motioned me to come forward near the throne while I can feel Prince Lucas was still walking behind me.
"Good evening, I've got news for you, Prince Kaiden. We only have two days left for the screening, and I want you to be with me during the preliminary round." King Alexandrix said.
"If you want, I can be a judge during the last day of the screening for a change," I said since I felt frustrated that I will not see Ana for six months. I am disappointed that our last days together were cut short. I know I was the one who said I would be leaving for six months to work in the human world.
My father's face brightened, and I can tell he is thrilled that I showed interest in this tournament.
"Very well, son, because I was expecting many will come during the last day of the screening, and I am sure the crowd will go crazy once they learn you will be one of the judges." My father replied, and I nodded.
"Count me in, father. I am excited to get this tournament started, so we can see who has potential and what dragon color will ace among the participants. I want to take part in this historical event, father because we are talking about my future wife here." I declared, and I can see the amusement on my father's face.
"Wow, you matured, Prince Kaiden, you make me so proud, and I can't wait to announce all over the kingdom that you will be one of the judges during the tournament." King Alexandrix said.
"Of course, father, but may I know if I can make some changes during the screening?" I asked, and my father nodded.
"You may, but you can't show favoritism, Prince Kaiden, because during the final round, no matter how you like a candidate, they will battle with their wits and supernatural abilities. I am just hoping the lady that you will choose is beautiful, witty, and most of all, powerful." My father declared, but my mind is on Ana. And I want to tell my father I could never have favorites because in my heart, there is only one familiar face I want to be with, and she is beautiful but not powerful, and I will do everything I can in my power to keep her safe at all times.
