Why, just why?

Actually, looking at how much time passed since I arrived at the palace, it was only a few days. Technically a three days ago.

My aunt got the permission for a family visit, and my dear father sent me.

Previous body owner should already smelt the scheme behind it, but it's not like she could refuse.

Her whole family is kinda rotten, and she couldn't escape influence of it.

Her (or my) grand-grandfather was really talented man, working as an Imperial Grand Tutor, but he died quite young, leaving only one di son, and two shu sons.

But, alas he was still talentless, and preferred to paint and write poems more than work, so he retired when he was into his forties.

His sons are also wastes who could just muddle trough the life. He only had one daughter who somehow succeeded.

The problem was that his shu brothers were talented.

And that was like a gravel in his eyes.

When my grand-grandfather died, my grand-grandmother immediately separated the family off. She gave them residences and some shops and farmlands and decided to forget about them.

Alas, they were only a young children about seven and three, and their mothers weren't that knowledgeable.

But I guess my grand-grandfather's genes decided to skip my grandfather, but passed to his shu sons.

Second grand uncle passed imperial examinations with flying colors and now he's vice minister of justice.

And third, because his mother was from merchant family, became renowned in commerce. Every popular shop in capital has his investment in it.

My grandfather hated them, but couldn't do anything. He already sent his daughter into palace fifteen years ago. But now she was into her thirties and wasn't attractive to Emperor anymore.

So my father suggested to send me.

So, when my aunt called me for a visit, I went kinda unwillingly, and basically sulked the entire time.

Basically, I went, I've seen my aunt for a first time. And damn, she was still a beauty. Is Emperor blind as a bat?

Then she sent me to admire some flowers in the garden.

Ha! You could see the warning bells go off in my head. But this young lady didn't have a choice.

And then while I was fakely admiring flowers, old emperor passed by and he was struck by my beauty.

He demanded for me to be immediately admitted to his harem and wanted to bestow me a title of meiren.

It was the nightmare for this body's owner. Fortunately emperor still had important work to do, so he delayed consumating our new union that night.

On second night, he suddenly fell ill, and today he died.

So I technically escaped being his official concubine.

I thought I will be dismissed from the palace because of that, and go live my merry life outside.

Why would I be sent to guard his tomb?

"It's because you've been titled as meiren" my aunt explained to me when I asked for explanation.
