Chapter 24

I remembered from my childhood that my grandfather once told me of an ancient Chinese proverbs which said,

"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, despite the time, the place, and despite the circumstances. The thread can be tightened or tangle, but will never be broken."

Dr Shane decided to sit in through the whole story telling time. I could feel his eyes on me all the time.

Once the story telling session finished. The children came over to me and hug me to thank me before I left for the day. They then proceeded to their desk to start their other lessons of the day.

I was packing up my things when Dr. Shane walked over.

"At last, I know your name is Sabrina. May I called you by that name?" he asked teasingly with a twinkle in his eyes.

"It's Miss Sabrina," I answered him coldly.

He said, "Miss Sabrina it is then."

I gave him the coldest and iciest stare which I could produced.

I started walking out of the library hoping he would not follow me but to my dismay he did.

"Where are you going? Do you want to go get a cup of coffee?" he asked cheerfully.

"I am sorry. I don't drink coffee and I had to get home. I had some unfinished work waiting for me," I rejected him politely.

"Alright then. I see you around then?" he asked hopefully.

"Maybe," I answered him.

He burst into laughter. "You are so cute when you are trying so hard to sound angry at me."

"I wonder what did I do."

I looked annoyingly at him.

"Hope you have a great weekend. See you around," he said when we parted ways at the front door of the orphanage.

I just walked away without looking back at him.

Why am I acting like this. It could just be a coincidence that they were both born with similar looks.

"Sabrina, get hold of yourself. That is not Josh. It's just another person who looked like him. A doppelganger."

"Gosh.... but how could his behavior is also similar to Josh? All my life only Josh could get under my skin but now...." I am going crazy debating with myself.

I was restless throughout the weekend thinking of what had happened. I could not sleep well. Every time I closed my eyes, both Josh and Dr Shane images would come to my mind. It's driving me crazy.

Dr. Shane seemed to be everywhere.

I bumped into him when I visited my student in the hospital.

Then on Saturday I would see him at the orphanage. He would dropped by to check on the children.

All the children were crazy about him. He was a fun person to be around. He would come in early and join us for our physical activities and he would never failed to sit in during my story telling session.

Sometimes he would play the guitar and sing while the children and I danced. He made me and the children laughed a lot.

I had to admit he was a really nice guy and he reminded me so much of Josh.

However, I was still not talking to him. I would only smiled and nod at him when I ran into him.

One afternoon while I was walking out of the school compound, I saw a familiar figure standing outside the main gate. When I got nearer to the gate, I realized that it was Dr. Shane. I was surprised to see him there. I was hoping he wasn't looking for me.

I tried to sneak out of the school gate quietly when he wasn't looking but I think I did a bad job because I heard his voice calling out to me.

"Miss Sabrina. I was waiting for you. May I have a word with you please?" said Dr. Shane.

"I have nothing to say to you," I tried to answered him as coldly as I could.

I was about to walk away when I heard what he said next.

"I don't understand. What have I done wrong? Why are you treating me so coldly? It's driving me crazy," he said frustratingly.

I turned around and faced him.

"You did nothing wrong. So don't worry about it." I replied.

I turned around and started to walk away again.

Dr. Shane started talking again in a desperate voice.

"I can't stopped thinking of you. I had never been head over heal over any woman before nor think about someone so much."

"I need you," said Dr. Shane.

I stopped walking and turned around again. What he said tugged at my heart.

He then continued on to talk.

"Since the first time I saw you from inside a coffee shop across the street which you walked passed every morning few weeks ago, I had a feeling like I had known you forever and I wanted to be with you."

"I had dreamed of you a thousand times even though I had never met you before. I thought I was going crazy but on that day of the accident when I got the chance to meet you. I knew I love you." he explained.

"I don't know how but I always knew. It's a mystery which no scientist can explain." he continued.

He walked closer to me until we were barely a few centimeters apart.

"Can you give me a chance to take care of you? I promise you that I will make you happy." said Dr. Shane softly.

"Now and forever. I will always love you, Sabrina."he said.

I broke down in tears and he pulled me towards him and hugged me.

Josh kept his promise.

Could this be an everlasting destiny.....
