Daises

Wade Wilson

"Dammit!"

"What is it now Hades?" My older brother asks looking at me with his ocean blue eyes.

"I don't think I can do this," I say nervously as I pace up and down the room.

He sighs, "For the last time, you don't have a choice, you don't want mom to get involved."

"Of course, not," I sigh, that’s the last thing I want, our over-bearing mother meddling in my business.

"So, sort this thing out quickly before mom catches wind of it."

I nod, "She’s probably too damn busy for gossip but I will."

He nods, "Good, now invite her over for dinner and I'll make sure Fifi comes, I'm sure they'll be good friends."

I give my brother a weary smile, "Thank you."

"Only helping a brother out and I understand how you feel, that's how I felt when I met Fifi."

"She doesn't even know she's one of us", I walk towards a single sofa and sit down.

And that scares me because I don't know how she'll react when she finds out about what she is and who she really is, she wasn't born into it like us, she was chosen by the gods for me.

The whole thing is scary and I do not want to mess it up, they told me that I am the one that is to help her discover who she is and help her unlock her abilities but I cannot do that without her knowing she's my future wife and bearing in mind that Chase has his eyes on her, I have to move quickly before he ruins everything.

"Brother, she'll find out sooner or later that she's your wife, and as for Chase you need not worry about that little rat, he will be dealt with accordingly by the gods or by us," my brother says.

I groan, "You need to stop listening to my thoughts."

He chuckles, "It's not my fault you think really loud in that small head of yours."

"Shut up," I mumble.

I take my phone out of my pocket and hand it to him, "Help me, please."

He rolls his eyes and starts typing, once he is finished, he hands it back to me, “I’m surprised you got her number without having to force her hand.”

"I went with the whole gardener act,” I reply.

Poseidon cracks up, I groan, I hate being the last born of the family, I always get picked on and laughed at and it's not like I had much of a choice, you can't just walk up to someone and tell them that they are a supernatural being and that you're their mate, that's creepy.

He finally stops laughing and takes out his phone, "Now let me go tell Fifi and I'll have her come over and cook up a feast,”

I smile at my brother, "You're the best."

"And you're my favourite little brother," he says and ruffles my hair.

I laugh lightly, as I smack his hand.

"Love you, Hades.”

"Bye Poseidon."

He snaps his finger and he disappears.

I let out a sigh and look at my phone, my eyes widen in shock, she really is coming, she agreed with a smiley face and I could not help but grin.

I quickly get up and go downstairs and find my godmother/nanny, Gertie or Gertrude, an old woman wise beyond her years, tall and sweet, with long grey hair and stormy grey eyes and creamy skin, she barely looked her age and funny enough I don’t even know how old she actually is.

"Gertrude, please call Gaston and tell him to come to see me immediately," I say with a smile, "I have a date tonight."

"With whom my boy?" Gertrude asks with a grin.

"The love of my life."

I walk away feeling confident, now I just must make sure that Fifi comes here on time to prepare all the traditional Greek food. I cannot believe it, I must send a gift to her, a dress. I quickly call up a designer and give him her dress size and tell him what I want to see her.

Ring, ring.

"Hello?" I answer.

“My husband tells me that you’ve found Persephone?"

"Fifi, I'm glad you called. She's the one, finally found her," I say.

She squeals, "I knew it. Oh, I am so excited. I'll be there in ten minutes to come to prepare."

"Thank you, Fifi."

"Poseidon! Our little brother is finally going to get laid!" She screams I hear my brother laugh in the background.

"I can still hear you, you know," I say embarrassed.

I hear a laugh and she cuts the phone. I chuckle to myself.

'Oh Persephone, I can't wait to see you tonight' my heart says.

About ten minutes later, I hear a knock at the door.

That was quick, I walk to the door and swing it open.

“Fifi, I thought you-”

I stop mid-sentence when I realise that it is my cousin Thanatos.

"What do you want?" I growl, this little prick has some nerve showing up here after the stunt he pulled last week.

He walks past me and then turns around to look at me, "I heard through the grapevine that you found her."

Bloody whisperers, those little witches, do not know how to mind their own damn business.

"And if I have?"

He gives me a menacing smile, "You have to introduce her to me, cousin."

"Not in this lifetime, now leave," I command.

"Oh, why not dear brother, I don't bite."

I look at my cousin and he has a dirty smirk on his face, I hate him. He thinks that he is better than me and he is better than me and every girl that's ever been in my life has fallen for his good looks and charm, he's emerald green eyes, brown hair, and beautiful body, crafted by the gods themselves.

I sigh, "Please leave Thanatos."

"Fine but only because you begged me to."

He walks towards the door, he turns to me and smiles, "But I'll be back, and I'll take her, just like I did the last one."

"Not this time, you will not win this time and I'll make sure of it," I say lowly and slam the door, the bang echoes throughout the house.

"Sonny, is everything alright?" Gertrude asks from behind me.

I take a quick breath in and out and give her a fake smile, "All is well Gertie, don't worry."

"It was Thanatos, wasn't it?" she says, annoyed.

I sigh, she steps closer to me and places her hand on my shoulder.

"Don't let him get to you son, he's not worth it," she says.

"But what if he's right, he always wins."

"Not this time my boy, I'll do everything in my power to stop him even if it kills me" she confesses, "You deserve to be happy and if she's what will make you happy then it worth dying for."

"You don't have to do that, who will cook for me once you're gone." I pout.

She smiles patting me on the shoulder, "I am bound to die anyway then who will cook for you?"

"Gertie, you're not that old," I chuckled.

"Yes, I am, I've been around since the dawn of time."

I laugh, "I love that joke."

"I know, it's your favourite one," she winks.

I kiss her on the cheek, "I don't know what I'd do without you, Gertie,"

"A whole lot more if you ask me, I'm always babying you."

I blush, "It's because you love me,"

She rolls her eyes, "A little too much."

I give her one more kiss, "I love you, Gertie."

"Me too sonny. You're not the demon everyone makes you out to be, in fact, you're as harmless as they come."

if only she knew.
