The Long Night

Ilona sat with the Prince's head in her lap as her heart beat hard in her chest.  The wolves howling around her had become one of the lesser scary noises she was hearing because at least she could recognize them.  She had no idea what some of the other terrifying sounds were coming from the woods, and she didn't like it.

The air was cool and damp with dew.  Ilona worried about Mason getting a chill, so she moved his heavy cloak until it was draped over him like a blanket.  His head was warm in her lap, and she tried to take comfort in that.  His skin was warm, so he was alive.  He had to stay alive.
