Tears

Ilona closed the wooden door to her cabin and leaned back against it.  It was pitch black without any candles or lanterns lit.  She covered her face with her hands and felt her emotions wash over her.  Overwhelmed by it all, her knees buckled beneath her, and she slowly slid down until she was sitting on the floor.

She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, resting her forehead on top.  She squeezed her eyes closed to try to keep the tears away, but it was a losing battle.  Warm wet trails were painted over her cheeks as she finally broke down and let herself cry.

      Everything was ruined.

Her thoughts swirled over it all.
