New Arrangements

Try as they might, Ilona and Mason couldn't manage to get the door to her quarters open.  The Prince had shoved, yanked, and tried slamming into it, but it wouldn't budge.  At last, they admitted defeat.

"I think the deck is going to have to be repaired before we can get this open," Mason sighed, rubbing his shoulder that he'd used to hit the door.

Ilona could only nod, so overwhelmed and defeated by everything that was happening.

Mason looked at her with concern.  Her hair had been tied back into a bun before but was now falling out with pieces hanging down.  She had dark shadows under her eyes, proving she needed sleep, and if he didn't know her better, he would have guessed she was on the verge of tears.

"Thank you for trying," she spoke, at last, her voice rough.
