Boots and Bodies

Ilona wasn't completely convinced by Mason's words, but they did bring her some comfort. He promised her they could talk about it more if she wanted, but first, they needed to find everyone and make sure they were safe. He left her to finish washing while he went back to the edge of the stream, making sure to keep his wrist in the cold waters.

It was eerily quiet on the island. Birds could be heard farther away in the jungle, but where the couple was, it was as if they were the only living creatures left. The knowledge made Ilona uncomfortable, and she hurried to finish washing so she could get back to Mason's side.

Ilona stood in the water, quickly braiding her hair so they could be on their way, when something caught her eye farther down stream. She frowned and squinted, working to make it out. When she was finally able to see what it was, her breath caught.
