Pain And Promises

The tall rocky back of the outcropping protected Mason and Ilona from the worst of the wind, but it also kept the sun from reaching them and warming them up as well.

The couple was moving slowly, but Ilona helped Mason out of his torn shirt before hanging it over one of the taller stones and setting a rock on it to keep it from being blown away. Her own shoulder and arm were extremely painful to move, so Mason removed her sword belt for her and laid it aside with his own. They helped one another get off their boots and any other wet item that would just work against their warming up.

"We'll rest a while," Mason said quietly, blinking with heavy lids. "Then, we can figure out how we're going to get out of here."

Ilona nodded in agreement, her own head pounding. "I'm so cold though."
