A Complicated Mission

Arianna and Edwin shot at the enemies from behind the huge tree they were hiding behind. The tree bark would constantly fly off as the bullets sunk into the tree. The Zeros used their submachine gun and machine guns to get maximum effects.

"I don't know who they are but they sure have lots of fire power."

"I'm betting a huge terrorist group. Look at the uniform." Arianna wiped her forehead. More bullets rained on the tree.

"I have an idea, cover me." Edwin suddenly said. Arianna gave him an 'are you crazy' look but dived out nonetheless. She drew the fire and rolled to the nearby tree.

Edwin jumped from the opposite direction and crouched down while aiming at the enemies. He shot wildly bringing down three in a few moves. He rolled down avoiding the barrage of bullets that came his way.

He shot again and brought the next masked man down and somewhere from behind someone shot the next one. He breathed a sigh and ran behind another tree. The enemies seem to be coming from the opposite direction.

He was wrong. More Zeros poured out from the forest right in front of him. He yelped and rushed to find a suitable cover. Bullets were flying everywhere.

A member of The Zeros spotted Arianna and aimed at her. She turned to his direction but was a bit surprised to dodge.

"Duck!" Marco yelled and jumped towards her. He happened to be nearby after the explosion threw him against a tree.

He pushed Arianna out of the way but wasn't lucky enough to escape the bullets. Two bullets hit his shoulder blade and he yelled in pain.

Arianna's eyes widened in shock. She quickly raised her gun even in that posture and fired at the Zero that had attempted to kill her.

Marco slowly got off her body with a slight grimace on his face. "Short stuff, when I say duck you duck, okay?"

Arianna nodded. She pulled him towards a nearby tree to serve as a cover. She tore off his shirt and used it to wrap the wound to slow down the bleeding. "Pass me the gun."

She nodded and gave it to him. He held it with his good arm while sitting behind the tree with a pained face. Arianna dashed out again and more gunshots followed.

….

Meanwhile, up on the tree, the sniper kept taking out as many Zeros as she possibly could. She would sometimes change location.

This time she jumped off the tree and headed for another but was surprised to see a group of three Zeros surround her. Her eyes flew wide and she pulled her hand gun and gave as many shots as possible.

Her eyes were filled with terror when she saw that they were still standing despite being shot so many times. It dawned on her. They had bullet proof vests and masks!

One reached for his machine gun and made short work of the sniper, turning her into a pulp of flesh and blood.

….

Richard was almost drained due to all the jumping around he was doing just to avoid the exoskeleton. The metal soldier took more heavy steps towards the tree he was hiding in and released more projectiles which shattered the tree.

Richard—who had rolled out from behind that tree—now stood face to face with the metal soldier. He had a sadistic smile on his face as he dropped his submachine gun and pulled out another weapon.

It looked like a hand gun but with a slightly larger muzzle. The metal soldier seemed offended that Richard would belittle it so much. It raised its arm again and aimed the grenade launcher at him but before he could fire, Richard had already fired his weapon.

A stream of massive light shot out towards the exoskeleton and smashed into the metal amour with enough momentum that it was pushed back a few metres. The grenades it fired spiralled out of control and exploded at another location.

Electric sparks buzzed around the metal armour. The exoskeleton seemed to be frozen, unable to move. The light in its red fiery slit dimmed.

Richard smiled a bit. "That was an electromagnetic weapon. The bane of all mechanical weapons."

He quickly stuffed a grenade into the metal soldier's large muzzle that was attached to the arm. The explosion triggered another explosion of the grenades it had stuffed in there, splattering metal shards and parts all over the place.

Richard didn't stop, however. He dashed towards where his bag was and slid across the ground, using the momentum to grab the grenade launcher. At that moment, buzzing sounds came again and the rain of bullets started.

The bullets killed friends and foe alike. Richard quickly aimed at the flying menace and locked onto it before firing at it. An explosion sounded soon after and metallic debris fell all over the trees.

Richard heaved a sigh but then another buzzing sound caught his attention. 'There're more than one fighter jets…'

He aimed again but suddenly he jumped to the side just in time to escape the powerful slug projectile that was launched at him. 'Another exoskeleton?' he thought in alarm.

If these guys brought a team comprising more than one fighter jet and one exoskeleton then this mission wasn't simple. Richard pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind. The most important thing now was to bring the survivors back.

He rushed to the side but then came face to face with more Zeros. He raised two hand guns and shot at each one before they had the chance to shoot at him.

Another one, however, avoided his bullet and sent a barrage of bullets at him. Richard dashed behind a tree but came face to face with three metallic soldiers all aiming their weapons at him.

His eyes widened and he quickly dived out and onto the ground as he watched the large projectiles they fired made a mess of the sturdy tree. He rolled over and rattled his gun taking down three Zeros member in smooth motion.

He couldn't fight two enemies at once.
