An Echo in the Past

'Cold.' I thought to myself, opening my eyes I looked around at the barren land. Snow covered everything in multiple layers, but couldn't cover the blood stains. I paused to look up at the sky, it was almost dusk, and the temperature was dropping quickly.

Standing up from the ice cold ground, I walked over to the line of cars that was flipped over, and slightly burning. The metal all bent and crushed from the heavy impact, looking over the ground, there was nothing to indicate how the wreck happened.

Bodies scattered the field, as blood spilled into the bright white snow. It was a massacre, the well know death of the two Crown princes. The death that made the whole country mourn, and I was only four when it happened, so whose memory was this?

Feeling my vision blur slightly, I raised my hand to the head wound that I accumulated. Seeing the bright red liquid on my hand, I took a deep breath in. Looking for a piece of cloth to stop the flow, I picked up the end of my dress, and tore off a strip and tied it on my head.

This wasn't my memory, but a snippet of the past, of the tragic past. Stepping toward the bodies of the Crown princes, I dropped to the ground the cold ground again, feeling the wetness of the snow, soaking into my dress.

Shoving the older boy onto his back, I was shocked at the strong resemblance of the King. He was basically a younger version of the king, strong jaw green jade eyes, and brown hair, and he didn't have a scar underneath his eye.

Brushing his hair out of his eyes, I gasped at how remarkable he looked, even dead. It was obvious that both of them died from the collision, both of their bodies had cracked skulls. They were also stabbed in the heart, not to long ago, so the culprits were still around.

Rushing over to the other young prince, he took after the Queen, with his blond hair. And after the King, with a firm jaw and jade green eyes. Checking the body for other wounds, it was exactly the same, this wasn't just a mere car wreck, but a murder.

Looking around for any signs of people, my body started coughing up blood and tears trailed down my face, I didn't know who's memory this was, but they were heartbroken at the sight of the Crown princes. I tried to stop the tears, but to no avail. Instead I watched the bodies grow colder, and the night take over.

"Why am I here though?" I spoke aloud, as a light snowfall came down, blowing my hair out of the bun. I noticed the blond hair, and narrowed my eyes, there were only so few people that had blond hair in the kingdom and had a close relationship with the Royal members.

"Crunch, crunch." Jerking my head up, I looked around for the intruders, and a burly man dropped to a knee and grabbed my chin. His face was empty, showing nothing, but the desire of power was written on his face. My body was no longer in control, she acted upon nerves, biting his hand, hard enough that blood was drawn.

Spitting on the ground, I was standing up, not taking my eyes off of the burly man. He had long hair, that were braided into parts, and tattoos covered his neck and hands, probably covering him everywhere. He chuckled and then lifted his hands, she once again panicked and dashed into the woods, finally leaving the scene.

"Your Majesty, I don't like playing hide-and-seek, just come with us." I stopped by a tree, carefully taking the bright cape off, and throwing it into a different direction, to create a distraction. Their footsteps crushed the snow, and there was occasionally a stick that broke, creating an echo.

'Your Majesty? Who's eyes am I seeing through?' I thought to myself as I carefully rushed deeper into the woods, stepping in places where my tracks couldn't be seen. Before I turned around a corner, a hand grabbed my wrist, forcing me down on my knees.

"Gasp, let go!" The grip tightened as I flailed, trying to get the strong hold off. When the burly man came back to stand in front of me, he grasped my chin again, and looked into my eyes. His black eyes looked like beads, or buttons, they were just glossy.

"Do you know how long I waited for you and the Crown princes to show up?" He asked while his grip tightened, grimacing at the pain, my vision blurring again. Someone released my arms at the command of their leader.

"I don't care, you murder!" The body screamed, tears trailed down my face, as my voice was becoming hoarse, from the amount of screaming I did. I had no control of what I wanted to say, just letting the body do her thing.

"Murder, that word has a nice ring to it. Queen Flames, you are now in my possession, and I won't let you slip through my fingers, so don't plan on returning to your precious husband." Falling unconscious, I fell forward into his chest, I lost to much blood, and spent to much energy running from these guys.

"Sleep well, My Queen." He murmured while picking up my body, or the Queen's body. I don't know how long till the next time I awoke, but it was in a new place. With other people watching me, the burly man stood by my side, smirking at me.

"Where am I?" I asked while sitting up, and he leaned down and grasped my chin, tilting my head slightly, to investigate the head wound.

He chuckled then waved his hand, telling his servants to leave. In a fresh dress, that had long sleeves, I pulled back the Queen's long blond hair, to get in a better position, putting more space between this murder and I.

"I can't tell you that, however I can tell you why you're here instead." He muttered while dropping his hand, looking away from the blond woman. I could feel the hate for this man, with every pore of my body, and I didn't blame the Queen.

"And?" She asked, I glanced into a mirror that showed her features, blond hair that had some light brown highlights. Her blue eyes twinkled in the dim light, and she was bruised all over her body, it hadn't been long since the incident.

"I'm going to keep you here as my personal maid, I can't make you anything more since there is the risk of you running." Clenching the blanket in frustration, I glared at the burly man, a Queen dropped down to a maid.

"You mean slave." I deadpanned and he smiled wickedly, backing away from him, I stood up and rushed to the door, just before I got the door open, I was slammed into the wall. He was too close, his retched breath wanted to make me barf.

"I was trying to make it sound nicer, but you don't seem to be the one to sugarcoat things. You're right, I'm keeping you as a slave and you'll reveal your husband's plans to me. After all you don't want your secret out, do you?" He leaned in to whisper into my ears, it tickled as he breathed.

'What secret, what was he talking about?' I thought to myself as I reached for the nearest blade, which was on his waist. Pushing him away I brought a knife to his neck, he looked shock for a moment, before he grasped my wrist, pulling the blade edge closer to his neck.

"My dear, are you sure you can kill me?" He smirked while the tip of the blade drew blood, widening my eyes, she dropped the blade. He brushed back a blond strand and then picked up the disregarded blade.

"I have no intention of killing, unless it is a dire situation." I spoke, and lowered my eyes. Seeing things from Queen Flames's perspective was really difficult to understand, however it made her look more human.

"Guards, take her to the finest cell we have." Opening the door, two fully armored soldiers, came in and grasped each of my arms, I didn't throw a fit. I didn't want to be in the presence of this man.

Images flashed by, showing how much she suffered while being his maid, things didn't go far between them, rather it was him who wanted her to realized his love for her.

However she was slowly growing depressed over time, without being around her youngest son and her husband, sometimes she would touch the wedding band, to bring him closer to her in daydreams.

"M'lady, you should consider this marriage, it will let you live as a noble again." An older man stepped into the room, and she looked at him with distrust. Of course he would send everyone to convince her that she is making a mistake, not choosing to marry the Lord, the burly man.

"I have no interest in being a noble, I want to be set free, and that man won't give me freedom." She spoke while braiding her hair into a fishtail. Her health has deteriorated within the last months, like she was starving herself.

"You could help rule this land." He placed his hand on her shoulders, and her eyes glowed. Shoving the man across the room, into a wall. She flung a knife, slicing his cheek, and he shivered in fear.

"Like I said, I have no intention in being with the murder of my children!" She shouted and her power was awakened, the room grew bright with a green hue, then died down as a necklace glowed brightly in red, causing her to sputter blood.

"You're a dragon?!" He spoke as he looked at the disheveled woman. He knew there was a reason why the Lord kept the lady, but her being a dragon shocked him, especially since they hunted down dragons. "Call for the Lord!" He shouted, while rushing out of the room.

"Ugh, this necklace, there is only one person that can take it off." Touching the necklace, I glowered at the sight, nobody should be banned from being their true self.

Hours later the burly man came into the room, with a chuckle. "I told you to become my queen, and yet you refused. Now I have to end your life here, when you could have made a better decision." He unsheathed his sword and brought the tip to her neck.

Spitting on his face, she spoke in a clear voice, "I know my worth. I will never stoop low to marry a murder of my family." The man's eyes widen in anger, rushing to the lady, the blade pierced through her chest, hitting her heart.

The blade felt cool as it sliced through, the feeling of the blade made me realized how much I should value my life, because with every second, life was ticking like a clock. The color of her skin turned ghostly white, and she muttered her final words, "My dear children, please avenge my life, and protect yours."

Tears trailed down my face as I watched her body fell to the ground. Blood poured everywhere, the floor was covered, in the bright red liquid. The guards looked at the lady then left the room, not wanting to see the sight anymore. The burly man stepped forward and unclasped the necklace as the center stone, glowed green.

He gripped the necklace, then left the room in silence.

'Dragon's magic was trapped into the necklace. It's usually for protection, but for others it's a tool for power and greed.' Turning from the sight, I was pulled back into the black void, with those images swirling in my mind. Who would have thought that I would see images through the Queen, who was a dragon.
