Chapter 5

After walking around aimlessly in the garden, I found the building in the middle of the garden. They really should add signs or something.

I walk inside and see people setting up decorations and fixing chairs and tables. But the main thing for this building were the windows. Each window had a picture made from different colored glass. I don't know where mom thought of the idea to do this, but it was beautiful. As the sun hit each window, the colors shined down on the floor making the room colorful and bright.

The building wasn't small either. It was tall and wide. The building stretches into equal grounds from both kingdoms. On the ceiling of the building was clear glass so that we could see the sky.

I was busy looking up at the sky that I wasn't looking where I was going and bumped into someone.

"Sorry!" I yelled

I saw the person I ran into. It was mom. She didn't move, she just kept staring at one of the window pictures.

"Mom? Are you okay?" I asked her, concerned.

She blinked and snapped out of the daze she was in. She looked back at me and looked surprised.

"Estrella? What are you doing here?" she asked me

"I just wanted to see this building before the ceremony" I said

I looked up at the window she was looking at. Some of the pictures mom had made made no sense and others didn't even look like it made a picture. But this one was clear as day.

In the middle was a large stone cut in half. Laying on the ground were several weapons. Some that I have never seen before. At the top of the stone was a large sword and in front of it but more towards the bottom was a shield. Surrounding it, was a forest filled with plants and in the sky was a light that shone down on the stone filled with weapons.

"What does this picture mean?" I asked mom

"What do you mean? It's just a picture" she laughed nervously

"Obviously not since you couldn't take your eyes off if it a second ago"

She hesitated before asking "Do you know the reason why we have weapons in our blood?"

"Yeah. The Gods blessed us who were worthy with the power to fight with our own skin and flesh."

"That the lie that our ancestors have taught us." She looked back at the window "I'm going to tell you the real reason why we are so different"

She led me into the garden. My now long time rival.

We sat down after making sure no one followed us.

"What do you mean they lied to us? Why else would we be able to form our bodies into swords and shields?" I asked her

"To understand it all, I must start from the beginning" she said

"About one thousand years ago, a meteor, a large rock from space, crashed landed on earth. Our ancestors had been waiting for this meteor for some time. When they broke into the rock, they found weapons inside. But when one of their members touched one of them, their bodies morphed into what looked like a human replica of that weapon." mom shivered, as if she could picture it clearly in her mind. "The other members were scared and looked for help from the outside world. Only to realize that most of the population was doomed to die. Their technology and everything keeping them safe had shut down. Soon, there were very few people left on earth and the explorers had no choice but to figure out what was going on so each member touched the weapons. Some died and some survived the morph. But once each weapon had a body, a message rang through each member's mind. 'Separate. Do not let any weapons near each other. Live separately.'"

"Who sent them? And why was that the only message for them?" I asked

"I'm not sure" mom said "The only people who know are the ones that sent them here and…"

"And?"

"And the first and last of a species to have the weapons"

"What does that mean?"

"One person of each generation in our family carries the same sword. After you were born, a piece of the sword I carried went into your body. After I die, you will have the full sword. And as the sword is transferred into another person, so are some of the memories from the past people."

"What do you remember?" I asked

"I think I remember life before the meteor" she said "There was so much that is now lost. All the technology and ideas"

"Technology? You said that before. What is it?" I asked

"I'm not exactly sure. But it sure made life there easier" she said

"Why can't we just remake it?"

"My memories are getting fuzzy and even if I could remember, I don't know the first thing about machines"

I huffed "If it were me…"

"Who said it isn't you?"

"I don't have any memories"

"Soon" she said

"I doubt it"
