The Secret is Out

"And here's your office," I said opening the door to my office.

"But isn't this your office?" Hiro said carrying a box into the office.

"Yeah but I never use it, I'm usually in the basement working on something," I said leaning on the door frame.

"Or someone," Katsuo said walking towards us. "Mayumi wants to talk to you she's in her room,"

"Could you take Ms.Vasquez to the office on the 8th floor for me?" I asked Katsuo, and he nodded, "She's down the hall, " I pointed behind me. "Well if you're all settled I'll be going,"

"I wanted to talk to you but it can wait," Hiro said setting the box down.

"If you ask me out on another date, I'll turn you into a test subject," I said threatening him.

"We'd spend more time together so I don't mind,"

"Ugh," I said heading over to Mayumi's room, when I got there she was pacing back and forth. "Hey what's up?"

"The drunkard told me about the arrow and I was wondering if I could see it?" Mayumi said with a small smile.

"Really? Why?"

"Well because I sorta always wanted to meet the Archer you know, they're like superheroes for someone like me, " Mayumi said looking down.

"I'll take you this afternoon alright but one condition," I said as Mayumi looked at me excitedly.

"Name it,"

"You can't tell anyone about it," I said giving her a serious look.

"I promise,"

"Great and for multiple reasons, we didn't have this conversation,"

"What conversation?" Mina said leaning on the door frame.

"If I wanted you to know I'd tell you and what are you doing here?" I asked turning towards her.

"I wanted to ask the girl a few questions," Mina said approaching Mayumi.

"I don't wanna talk to you, hag," Mayumi said looking her dead in the eye.

"Hag!? Who're you calling a hag!?"

"You, who else would I be talking to? Anyway, I should be going now, stranger danger is a thing," Mayumi said walking out of the room. All I could do was laugh, Mina glared at me.

"I see you're the one raising that child," Mina said folding her arms.

"I guess you could say that she does spend most of her time with me," I said trying to stop laughing while clenching my stomach.

"Tsk, you always seem to make my job harder than it needs to be,"

"Hey, all I taught her was the stranger danger part the rest was all her," I said wiping a tear from my eye. "Mayumi can come off as rude at first but give her time she's a good kid," I said leaving the room. I was heading to the basement when I ran into Hiro.

"Hey, Director," he said waving at me.

"Hey, how's the office?"

"It's great, I wanted to talk to you though, "

"I'm listening also I'm waiting on that intel too,"

"I'll have it delivered soon and I wanted to talk to you about the arrow, "

"Hm?"

"Did you get anything out of it before it dissipated?"

"Well it's not a crystallized arrow but a crystal arrow, it was formed entirely from crystal," I said pushing the elevator button, "It dissipated while I was running a test, I shot it up into the air and poof,"

"Hm I see, could you write up a report for that?"

"No problem," I said as the elevator arrived, "I'm gonna get to work on it, see ya," I said as I got into the elevator and went to the basement, seeing Mayumi standing at the door. "I said the afternoon, isn't Katsuo supposed to be teaching you right now?"

"He is supposed to but this guy wanted to talk to him, I got bad vibes from him so I left," Mayumi said standing near the metal door. I walk up to the pad and scan my eye letting Mayumi in, I lead her to the far left side of the room where the crystal arrow is in a display case.

"Woah," Mayumi said looking at the arrow. "Can I touch it?"

"Sure, just be careful it's heavy,"

"I'll be perfectly fine," Mayumi said picking up the arrow with ease.

"So you can pick it up and hold it without a problem too," I said wondering how that could be.

"Of course, it's the Archer's arrow all Tormentors can carry and hold it but we can't fire it,"

"What?!" I said shocked, I looked at my hands as they trembled.

"You alright Director?" Mayumi looked at me worried.

"Yeah yeah, put that down for me please and I need to go see Luciel do you know where he is?"

"Yeah he's in his room," Mayumi said putting the arrow back.

"Thank you alright let's go," I said locking the case and walking out of the basement, "Oh and one more thing, don't ever tell anybody what you just told me,"

"You mean about the arrow?"

"Yeah,"

"But why?"

"Reasons I can't explain right now but just don't do it,"

"I'll keep quiet for $100," Mayumi said smirking and holding out her hand.

"Fine, I'll go to the bank later," I said pulling her into the elevator, the two of us went to Luicel's room and I knocked on the door. Luicel opened the door with a sleepy expression, I pulled Mayumi into the room. "We need to have a chat about that arrow,"

"Can't it wait till later?" Luciel said yawning.

"Of course not, why didn't you tell me that only Tormentors can hold and pick up the arrow?"

"Well, when I saw you take out that arrow from that guy's face I assumed you knew and were hiding the fact that you're a Tormentor,"

"You're a tormentor?!" Mayumi said shocked but she looked as though she was happy about it.

"Shush Mayumi,"

"Oh so you must have carried the arrow, that's why you didn't want me to say anything. I can keep this secret for $50 since you're a Tormentor too," Mayumi said.

"I could see why you're hiding it but how long will it be before people start catching on?"

"Hopefully long enough for me to think of a plan," I said thinking about what I should do next.

"Let's not forget my court date is next week too," Mayumi said.

"Shit," I said. I worked so hard, for so long, and these two just appear and everything is about to go down the drain.
