"She's got 5 minutes now," I said checking my watch as Luciel and I waited on the sidewalk in front of the courthouse.
"Will they sentence her to death for being late?" Luciel asked looking down at me.
"Most likely not but it really does depend on the judge," I said looking around, I then glanced at my watch again. Luciel and I waited the 5 minutes but Mayumi didn't show, I tapped my watch.
"Is it broken?" Luciel said watching me tap it, I shook my head.
"It just froze for a second, it's alright now," I told him as we walked into the court, we took our seats and just before the judge got here Mayumi came running in. She quickly stood beside Katsuo as the judge walked in and took her seat. I giggled watching the judge walk in.
"What's so funny?!" Luciel whispered to me.
"Because Katsuo has this case in the bag it's almost funny, I have a pretty good idea of how this case will go after all," I said excitedly, Luciel looked at me confused.
"My client is innocent you honour, she only had the misfortune of stumbling upon the victims and today I will prove that fact. Mayumi was born with misfortune, as a baby her parents decided to abandon her in a bar leaving her to fend for herself. Now coming to this city, doing nothing more than exploring she is now in missing persons' cases. Mayumi is an innocent child ridden with misfortune and this happens to be another one of them." Katsuo said in his opening statement.
"Mr. Suzuki I must say that your opening statement was amazing but you seem to have one thing wrong," the prosecutor said.
"Oh and what might that be?" Katsuo asked her.
"As of 5 minutes ago, this had become a murder case," the prosecutor said, the courtroom gasped.
"Then shouldn't this case be adjourned seeing as there is now new information?" Katsuo asked the prosecutor.
"What do you say, Judge Carrie?"
"Let's commence this trial since the prosecutor has this new information she may proceed with her opening statement and then further arguments,"
"As you wish your honour," the prosecutor smiled and Mayumi turned back to look at me. I raised my finger and she turned back around.
"Ms. Mayumi is a Tormentor nothing more, what do Tormentors do? They kill, steal, deceive, and lie basically threatening society as a whole. Despite her age, Ms. Mayumi has now proven to be a major threat to society by targeting and murdering women between the ages of 30-50. You may be asked why 30-50 and why women? I'll tell you why Ms. Mayumi resents her mother for leaving her alone to fend for herself so she's been targeting women in that age group. Ms. Mayumi is a loose cannon and we cannot afford to have her roaming the streets any longer, who knows you may be next," the prosecutor said finishing her statement. "I call Ms. Mina Vasquez to the stand," Mina came up the stand. "Ms. Vasquez, I'm aware you did a small investigation on an accident that happened within another department involving Ms. Mayumi, could you tell the court what you found?"
"Yes, I was told that the incident involved Ms. Mayumi and Ms. Blossoms. They were both left in a room together, the only person who knew what went on in that room. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to talk to Mayumi since she dodged me as well as the fact her guardian lets her do as she pleases,"
"Guardian you say?" the prosecutor asked, "Who might this guardian be?"
"The head of the Inventions Department, Director,"
"That's all I wanted to know," the prosecutor said as she took her seat. Katsuo got up and approached Mina.
"Ms. Vasquez you said that her guardian lets her do as she pleases, what do you mean by that?" Katsuo asked Mina.
"While I was speaking to Mayumi she addressed me in a rather rude manner and after she left her guardian couldn't do anything but laugh," Mina said huffing and crossing her arms.
"On the surface, it may look that way to you but Mayumi has a guard up so she dismisses people with rudeness that being said her rudeness was to ensure you never spoke to her again which worked," Katsuo explained, "Mayumi hasn't had the opportunity to have a role model so she keeps to herself. Her now guardian, Director has opened the door to the opportunity and Mayumi has just taken it,"
"Objection!" the prosecutor shouted, "You've said that Mayumi has just been unfortunate so wouldn't her meeting Director also be unfortunate? Especially given her reputation?" the prosecutor smirked.
"What reputation do you have exactly?" Luciel whispered to me.
"Not a good one of course but reputation is meaningless to me, reputation is something people will kill for as soon as anything threatens it. Although to me, reputation is just what other people see on the surface I've made tons of achievements yet I never once escaped the Demon Director name I picked up along the way. Another reason why Cher and Katsuo handle every TV-related situation," I explained to Luciel.
"Mayumi meeting Director is the fortune that may change her life for the better, ladies, gentlemen, and people of the court consider this. If you didn't have anyone caring for you, loving you, supporting you, and guiding you along the way throughout your childhood where would you be? Not to mention growing up in a dangerous environment, having to fend for yourself, would you not do whatever you need to do to survive?" Katsuo asked everyone in the court, a few people had sad looks on their faces, some were shocked but the prosecutor looked furious. I smiled at her anger, I knew exactly what she would do next.
"That's all," Katsuo said taking his seat.
"The prosecutor may bring up their next witness," the judge said.
"I call up Director, head of the Inventions department," the prosecutor said, I smiled and rose from my seat making my way to stand.
"Let's get this party started," I said as I took my seat.
