Her Inheritance

"D, your phone is ringing," Sunako told me as I could hear the latest pop song come from my phone. "If you don't wanna answer it just turn off the ringer,"

"I would but then I'd get the urge to answer it," I said ignoring my phone as it rang.

"Ugh," Sunako grabbed my phone out of my back pocket and answered it, "You've reached Director, she can't come to the phone right now but I can pass a message on her,"

"Why did you have to answer it?" I said sighing.

"She wouldn't have to if you had just answered your phone," Humiya said.

"True but could've just turned off the ringer she didn't need to answer it,"

"Sure, I'll pass that message along, whatever," Sunako said hanging up the phone and handing it back to me. "Someone named Sybil called and said that they had royally fucked up pretending to be you,"

"I see, did they say how?"

"Something about your brother outing them,"

"I see so I can only use that trick about 2 more times," I said to myself.

"Why only 3?" Briar asked me.

"Destiny told me 1 2 3 when you need to deceive, but if you carry onto beyond then everything will go wrong. I assume she tried to tell me that I can only use this trick 3 times but I'm not exactly sure what she was talking about," I explained.

"Does she always speak like that?" Humiya asked, looking worried.

"Just when she tells you the future possibilities but of course she can't control that part of her manifestation. In fact, she doesn't even know she does it. She only gives it one time and it could be confusing if you try to ask her about it she has no recollection of it," I explained.

"Cool, knowing you this theory is accurate and has been tested?" Sunako asked me.

"To its fullest extent," I said agreeing with her statement.

"So how do we know when she'll make a prediction?" Briar asked.

"Usually they aren't predictions but they are warnings and there's no way of telling,"

"Please tell me you're joking," Humiya said.

"Sorry but I'm not, they always come in at random,"

"Deities help you guys then," Sunako said.

"You are a part of this too Sunako," Humiya said.

"Nah babes I do my own thing, but good luck to y'all," Sunako said leaving the gem and hiding in the darkness of a building's shadow.

"Ugh, I bet her father wasn't so unreliable and self-centred," Humiya said.

"Actually he was, and your mother was always a stick in the mud too," Briar said.

"At least my father wasn't a brute," Humiya said folding her arms.

"Say that again and I'll definitely show you a brute," Briar said as whiskers appeared on her face.

"Hey Ruri, what was your mother like?" I said quickly changing the atmosphere of the conversation before Humiya was killed.

"Well in my opinion she was a kind-hearted person," Ruri said smiling.

"She was, she always helped my dad," Briar said.

"Director, don't you wanna know what your mother was like?" Humiya asked me.

"I know what she was like," I said looking out at the Tormentors, "She was a demon,"

"She was always cold and even seemed like she was evil at some points," Ruri said quietly.

"That's true my mother told me she was the least likeable Tormentor house, not to mention she was surprised when she got married with the anger issues she had,"

"Guys-," Briar said tilting her head towards my direction.

"Say what you want, I despise her and luckily I look more like my father, the Blacksmith side of the family," I said sighing, my phone started ringing again. I saw Sybil's number pop up on the screen, we were almost at the department building so I answered it. "What's up, Sybil?" I said as she told me something I never expected to hear. At that moment, I don't even remember what happened.

"Hey Director, is everything alright?" Briar asked but got no response. "Ruri, I think you should take the gem down now," Briar said worriedly.

"We're almost there, just give it a few minutes," Ruri said moving ahead.

"But-" Briar said as she could feel something malicious and angry in the air. "Miya? Do you feel that?" Briar said tapping Humiya's shoulder.

"Feel what?" Humiya said turning around to see one of Director's eyes illuminating a dark blue and her star pupils were gone. "Shit, Ruri take the gem down and put another up with us three," Humiya told her, she couldn't help but fear for her life. Director was angry, one of the only things she had inherited from her mother was her anger.

"Just a little more," Ruri said as Humiya suddenly disrupted her train of thought causing the gem to completely shatter and with that Director summoned a scythe through her left arm. Ruri was shocked and didn't know what to do, the gem she had made shielded them from the public eye. Now everyone could see them, especially the angry Director. The crowd could feel her causing a panic in front of the department building. Director uttered a few words.

"Who wants to die first?" she said as people started running.

"Ruri, now!" Briar said. Ruri still in shock couldn't put up a gem to shield them. Director noticing they weren't running took their challenge.

"You guys wanna fight first? One on one or three on one?" she said raising her head with a smirk, "Oh hell it doesn't matter to me, I'll kill you all," she said as she charged for the three of them.

"Ruri, if you don't shield us right now we're all gonna die!" Humiya yelled at Ruri, who was still in shock. Briar jumped in front of the two as her horns illuminated a bright yellow and a turtle's shell appeared on her back. Although the shell wasn't enough to stop the blow that broke the shell and knocked the three of them into the ice wall.

"Aw, I thought this was going to be fun," Director said approaching them and holding her scythe in the air. Briar was unconscious and Humiya tried to help her, leaving the shocked Ruri's side. "Buh-bye," Director said as she swung her scythe downward on the three.
