SERAPHINA'S POV

I whimpered at the tornado invading my head and curled into a foetal position. The pain getting so unbearable as nausea occasionally surged in my throat. I checked the time and groaned, 10:30 am. I was already thirty minutes late for my first class and my ass was still glued in bed. I got up and trudged to the bathroom, much to my dismay but imagining the consequences that will follow upon skipping school kept me going.

After two agonizing hours, I was all set and ready. The only problem was, my ride left an hour ago. That's not an issue, I could always grab a cab since my ass was too lazy to drive. My weak form stood on the sidewalk, about to hail a cab until a sleek black Mercedes Benz pulled up beside me. The windows rolled down and Tyler in all his grace gave me a once over with a smug expression on.

"Are you going to stand there and wait for me to invite you in?" He smirked, opening the passenger's side door. I ignored him and continued hailing. One should definitely stop already, ugh.

"You do know that all the assignments given this week will be recorded right? God help you if you continue skipping school. " That did it. My eyes visibly widened and without thinking twice, I hopped into the passenger's side and buckled up. How could I forget it's one more week until midterm?

Tyler took off and I leaned my head against the window, trying to doze off but my head had other plans. Trust migraine with perfect timing.

"You don't look okay." It's a statement, there's no trace of doubt underlying his tone. I continued ignoring him and adjusted myself to a much more comfortable position. A gesture I seemed to be frequently doing in the past five minutes.

"I can grab you a painkiller at the Pharmacy, you know." Couldn't he get the hint? I don't want to engage in any form of conversation with anybody, him especially.

"Just drive Tyler. " I snapped. The air surrounding me emanated gloom, and I wish he would catch on and let me be.

"Since when do you care anyway?"

Tyler was never the considerate type. He cares about no one but himself. So, why was he trying to play gentle Jack today?

He snorted and briefly glanced at me. "I don't care and never will, honestly. I'm just doing this to put my theoretical knowledge in the medical field to practice. Don't get your hopes up."

Silence engulfed us after that. No one uttering a word until we reached campus.

My arrival corresponded with the second period, and I met the class fully packed. Something very unusual, but you couldn't possibly expect less with the upcoming continuous assessments.

"Miss Del Varia, you're late!" Mrs Smith roared. I winced and discreetly rubbed my ears, muttering a quick apology.

"You look like a witch that had escaped from a dungeon. " Maya snickered as I took my seat beside her.

"What's up with you?"

"Migraine." I groaned and placed my head on the desk.

"Here." She handed me Tylenol and bottled water. I thanked her and drank the pill, returning my head to the desk.

"Miss Del Varia, that better not be your head laid on the desk while lectures are going on!"

Holy nutmeg. I tiredly lifted my eyes to a fuming Mrs smith, glowering me down.

"Since what I'm doing is apparently useless, why not you help us read from page 350?" She seethed, causing my classmates to lowly chuckle.

"I don't feel good."

"Reading helps to boost your immune system. It'd been scientifically proven. " She argued. Now welcome to NYU, where lecturers lie to torment their students. The only school of cryptic possibilities.

I sighed and opened my textbook "To what page?" Might as well get this over and done with, since Mrs Smith was being an adamant eggplant.

"370." Audible gasps emitted from the corners of the huge classroom and my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Twenty fucking pages!

"What?"

"Did I stutter?" She spat.

"But Mrs Sm...

"Yes, start from paragraph one." She dismissed. I exhaled and stared at the book in distaste, wanting nothing more than to rip it in half. Small, weightless, object, planning to rampage the academic world for dear life.

You better go back to where you came from. You little, conceited, go...

"Miss Del Varia, we don't have all day!"

Remind me to visit an otolaryngologist later.

_________________________________________

"And she ended up leaving the class when Mrs Smith added ten more pages." Maya was explaining the events that transpired post my reading fiasco with Mrs Smith, and my friends were having the time of their lives, laughing their asses off. We were seated on the gym floor, waiting for Mr Black.

"At some point, I was afraid she was going to punch Mrs Smith." Nathan laughed.

"You looked dull today baby girl, what's up?" Malu chided. I ignored them and continued stretching.

"Hey." Aisha smiled, sitting beside me.

"Hi, A." I greeted back with a weak smile. There are just some people you couldn't ignore regardless of your condition.

"A, huh. I love it."  Does she ever frown?

"Sex, I need some wet shit,

Neck, I need some bad girl,

Yeah, I'm a Lil magnet."

You can already guess who was blasting an explicit song during school hours.

"So you like them wet, huh?" Caleb teased.

"Wet and sleek." Miskha winked.

She sat down in a split position and leaned forward on her hands. No one seemed to understand how she managed her body into such a weird position. The girl was just too much for words.

"I'm going to pretend like I didn't notice Y'all creeping up at me."

"Just how flexible are you?" Leila wondered.

"Only one person's in the best position to answer that." She wiggled her brows at Ahmed, who hid his flushed face behind his hands.  Sophia clenched her jaw and threw Miskha a dirty look. We all struggled to maintain poker faces as the drama unfolded.

"Life is funny. Now I'm being shaded for going kinky on my own boyfriend."

"I'm not your boyfriend Miskha, and never will be." Ahmed snapped. Miskha rolled her eyes and yawned, not the least bit fazed by his murderous look.

"You broke up, I didn't." Ahmed's veins popped in anger at Miskha's remark.

"If you have an ounce of dignity left in your soul, you'll let go. You were merely an object of pleasure. Nothing more." He vindicated.

"Ahmed!" Lalia exclaimed.

Any normal lady with sentiments would've felt insulted by Ahmed's remark, but this wasn't the case with Miskha. She only laughed it off, as though he was a clown of some sort.

"That right there is denial speaking." She mused, wiping her eyes off the tears which escaped during her laughing spree.

"You think?" Ahmed hissed.

"Oh, I know babe. I know."

"Keep fooling yourself. You're delusional." He snorted.

"Me or you?" Miskha taunted.

"It's your tell, although I'm not the one  being a broke whore just because my fuck buddy decided to settle down with a much more responsible chick." Sophia giggled at this, twirling a strand of hair around her index.

I inwardly winced at Ahmed's remark. He's so ruthless and crude. You don't go about insulting women, even Tyler's rational enough.

"And I'm not the one using another girl as a rebound, just because I'm struggling to get over my ex." Miskha fired back.

"I fucking hate you." He bellowed.

"Then look me in the eyes and say it."

"Look me dead in the eyes and tell me that you hate me, Ahmed."

Ahmed lowered his gaze.

"Look me in the eyes, and tell me that all those years of memories meant nothing to you. That you didn't feel anything when we touched."

"Look me in the eyes, and tell me that night meant nothing to you."

Ahmed looked like he would pass out any moment, as he struggled to lift his gaze to Miskha.

"you're being pathetic, Miskha!" Sophia shrieked.

"Look me in the eyes, and tell me I'm nothing more than an object of pleasure to you." Miskha drew closer to him until they were barely an inch apart.

"Most importantly, look me dead in the eyes, and tell me that you still don't love me and Sophia isn't a rebound."

The tension in the air was thicker than a strawberry smoothie, as everyone awaited Ahmed's reaction. Sophia raised a quizzical brow at him, for his head remained lowered, unable to look at Miskha.

"Babe." Sophia croaked, a lone tear sliding down her cheek.

He stared at Sophia with a guilt-filled expression and shook his head before leaving. His shoulders sulking in defeat.

"You'll regret this!" Sophia sneered at Miskha and left.

I got up to grab a water bottle only for my head to go into a throbbing frenzy.

"What's up with her?" Caleb inquired.

"Migraine?" Maya responded.

I felt a hand rubbing circles on my back and I slightly craned my neck to see Maya seated beside me. I don't know what I'd do without her.

"Thank you."

"Anytime. Enrique went to get you a more effective pain killer from the clinic. He'll be back before you know it." I nodded and laid my head on her thighs.

"Not this again." Malu groaned at the same time a familiar, deep voice boomed in the room.

Like I needed this right now. Like I needed Mr Black to show up on one of my worst days.

"Let's warm up with fifty planks." He ordered and I looked at him as if he'd grown a pair. Howbeit, I supposed I was the only student disturbed by this since others had already started.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't one who hated workouts. If anything, working out is my favourite hobby, but the situation I was in couldn't allow me to walk properly. What more of an intense gym exercise?

"Del Varia, what are you waiting for?"

Just try Sera, you can do it.

I bent and stretched my legs on the mat, only to be hit by a sharp wave of pain. An involuntary whimper escaped my throat as I collapsed on the floor.

"I can't do this Sir, I'm sorry." My eyes pooled. I could care less about being stared at. I was in pain.

"This is going to be recorded." He barked. Damn.

"I know, but I don't feel good. Can't I do it another t...

He shook his head before I could complete my statement.

" I don't care, and you'll do it today. Otherwise, I'll see you next semester."

"Please, M...

" If I have to repeat myself it won't look good on your result. "

"Just do it Phina," Aisha whispered from beside me. I swallowed the lump in my throat and forced myself into a correct planking position as immense pain coursed my head.

------------------------------------------------------

"You've done enough already." I weakly smiled and intertwined our fingers. My migraine had subsided, thanks to the pill Enrique bought for me.  I leaned back on the headrest and sighed, closing my eyes. The silence surrounding us was serene and I didn't want it to end anytime soon.

"I'll call you tonight." He sighed and pecked me on the cheek. I alighted and proceeded to the front door while he drove away.

I pray this stupid migraine returns before Monday. I can't afford to go on a tour feeling sick.
