A Forsaken Land

She could not tell how long it had been since she left Merah. The days were as long and deceptive as ever, the strange occurrence of skies put the whole empire on edge.

The villages, towns and cities she crossed all talked about their seemingly inevitable demise. How could they stay hopeful when the palace as well as the council was brought down?

And all that only became worse when they realized that the moroi no longer appeared as distinctive as before. They could be walking among common men, and no one would be able to know.

But as Nesrin encountered a few of them herself, she realized a few more things.

Even though they seemed very similar to humans, the moroi all had dark eyes and their irises were surrounded by a ring of the deepest shade of blood. It was hard to notice unless there was a direct light.
