I would pierce the water's surface, but the thing I had hoped to assault was nowhere to be seen. It did not matter though, its dreadful presence could be felt lingering, and so could its chaotic emotions.
I would have to wait to analyze the nuances of the creature though. As the moment I left the water, I would be punted by an invisible force all the way back to shore in the blink of an eye. It happened so fast and so brutally, that by the time I realized I was perched up against a tree, it was nightfall. The thing had knocked me out cold and I couldn't even retaliate.
As I picked myself up, I was nigh despair's clutches. The reality was that if it wanted me dead, it would have already happened, thus what was the point in doing anything. It could fly, so no matter how high I went or how high I climbed, it would reach me.
