King of Nothing Part 2

Absolute authority meets heavy hatred in a battle of the aura's. I've seen a thousand people like Damage before, so I was waiting for the change. The moment that he would show the slightest hint of annoyance for a weakling like me for daring to defy his power. And while he did show surprise, it wasn't the predictable answer I was looking for.

"Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Aren't you a riot? I wondered who amongst the lower levels would have the capability to steal from Omna and me simultaneously. But seeing that look in your eyes all but confirms how you managed to pull it off. That will of yours must be something else because there hasn't been anyone that I know of who's been able to resist my phantom pain. Nonetheless, it's nice to finally put a name and face to the man with the plan. Don't you agree?"

"Of course, because now I get to enjoy kicking your ass up close and pers-."

"Oh please, Eternus, we've moved past that. I was going to test to see how well cooked a central nervous system has to be before a person becomes a vegetable but killing you would honestly be a waste. Even in captivity, you've beaten both the Omnifarious Officer Omna and my best men with ease. And you've somehow made my stolen creds untraceable; it's clear you all have impressive skill. So how about we come to a bit of a wager."

"What exactly are we wagering?"

"Your skill set and my mercy Eternus. You're not the first group to defy me, just the only one that's eluded me this long. In that time, I've made your name infamous amongst the rabble of the lower levels. Join my Monarchy of Misanthropes and me, and The Cons can taste all the sweet bounties that Krimo's lower class can offer us. Join me, and you can be a king amongst fools," he said in a fanciful tone.

On paper, the idea sounded like a thief's dream come true, but I knew better a long time ago.

'Nice proposal, but what happens if we just so happen to refuse your little wager."

"Sorry, did I say wager? I meant ultimatum, dear Eternus. Because unless you can conjure 600,000 credits in the next few seconds, you and your team will be spending every waking second earning back all I've lost under my dominion. And if you have a problem with that, then you can go right back in that locker, without your femme fatale to save you. And I promise you, Eternus, I may not know what the hell looks like, but I'll make sure to replicate the experience to every one of you."

Instantly, his phantom pain grew even stronger, forcing my already weathered legs to fall to the floor. After that, I was finally eye to eye with the bastard. Damage's light red eyes shining with the same absolute authority that took away all forms of resistance.

"Now, with that little trial settled, let's get on with the inanition, shall we?"
