Shakedown Part 6

Despite my relatively forgiving nature, I won't deny that out of all the people of Krimo, Mayor Blakk always rubbed me the wrong way. Everything from his policies to his near-monthly faux speeches to even his sense of fashion (petty as it might be) bothered me. Every time I grabbed that man's hand, it felt like I was gripping a nest of slithering snakes.

It didn't exactly help that there was enough media attention, conspiracy theories, and rampant mudslinging around to probably fuel as much drama as a soap opera. And while I, for one, have had my fair share of negative feedback and criticism, one that seemed to grow more faded by the day amid my creed, Blakk almost robotically seemed to take it in the worst way. Like he was living his separate world while the rest of us suffered.

His current abode was a perfect example of this. His old penthouse home had now evolved into an even more elaborate building. However, a fortress was probably the best way to describe it. Through sense mode alone, I counted about a hundred cameras, a 24/7 watch of guys and gals in suits with the cherry on top being about well over a dozen formerly illegal weapons and turrets from on top of my vantage point.

Even with all my power, I have to admit that it was a stronghold unlike any other. However, just because I was known for my flashy entrances doesn't mean that I have a more subtle touch. Still, that didn't stop me from being at least a little nervous, forcing me to make the first call to my friend.

`

"Okay, the changing of the guard is coming soon. Are you sure ready? No offense, but I know you're a little out of practice."

"Omna, please, you and I both know that this life's like riding a bicycle. It never really goes away."

"Even if that bicycle includes becoming a living EMP through tunneling 900 million volts continuously."

"Of course, I used to do this all the time. Though I can only guarantee you one shot."

"One shot is all I've ever needed; start it up now," I said as our window opened up.

With that, I shut off both the communicator and sense mode, once again remembering my points and way of entry as my vision seemingly zoomed out to reveal the borderline urban canyon of buildings that separated me from Blakk.

Along the way adjusting my hoodie and mask, new accessories I wasn't used to in this status known as a vigilante. When I finished that up, I noted the freshly administered Rev still running through my veins and fueled my next switch up while reminding myself of the situation.

If this works, Girder using his hardy metallic skin and old support items, should make himself a short-range living lighting electromagnetic pulse. The only problem was even with the EMP, Blakk's fortress had backup generators that would automatically kick in only seconds after the initial shut down.

This means once again; I had to go beyond my limits and pull out the combination I pulled to save Julia: Max Speed! All at once, my body grew far denser, putting on pounds and muscle mass as I positioned myself into a track start. Girder's call out served as a welcome point of focus as my limbs dug into the rooftop so hard it cracked.

"3,2,1… Go!"

With that, I was off, launching from the building so hard I shook it to its core! However, I didn't even bother to dwell on the feat; instead, curling and positioning my body just enough while instantly shifting modes! Harmlessly organs shifted, and bones creaked to fit my now more petite size. However, my frame was still far from weak, as with the speed of thought, my body regained new life in the form of light blue lightning!

With my legs now holding more force than dynamite, I leapt off the various skyscrapers in a zigzag pattern, painting the night sky in blue electricity! Each leap made me even more speed to the point where I was nothing but a zooming blur. Before the speed became too much, I flipped on flight mode, easing the oppressive wind just enough for me to control my descent and glide fast enough to land at the top of Blakk's house.

By the time the lights turned themselves on, I already had more than enough momentum to sail towards Blakk's room, recognizing his life signature from countless interactions while avoiding every guard with ease. Along the way, that earlier numbing sensation consumed my entire being as I loomed over Mayor Blakk like a predator to prey!
