The pain and the gain

Betty went home frustrated and angry at how life is treating her. she just lost her only means of survival, without that job she was doomed

She opened the door to her small one room apartment and angrily flings her bag on the chair, she sits and tries to calm down, that was when Amanda walked into the house, true enough, she looked old and unhealthy, her beauty was still there, she has wrinkles and looked pale, her white hair was so obvious. she went to sit near Betty

"what's wrong dear?" she asked the distress Betty who looks at her with tears in her eyes, Betty hugs her mother for comfort

"I'm not OK mum, I quit my job and that's the only means of survival for us, how will I get you your medications now" she cried and Amanda comforts her, Betty breaks the hug

"why did you quit?" Amanda asked, she knew her daughter well enough and knows there's a tangible reason for that. Betty narrated everything to her mother and Amanda smiles proudly "I am proud of you Betty, I am so proud of you" Amanda said pecking her daughter on the forehead

"but mother I just lost the job, how am I meant to take care of you and buy your medications. You know you need the medications" she replied and burst into fresh tears, Amanda wipes her tears

"you are my brave girl Betty and I know you don't give up, you can always get a new job and take care of me" Amanda consoled. 2 years back, Amanda was diagnosed with kidney problem, she had only one kidney left and needed money for transplant, Betty was willing to donate her kidney even against Amanda's wish but she needed money to carry out the surgery, she opted for medications to prevent her mother's health from deteriorating and it was quite a huge amount of money, Betty decided to take up a job and was able to maintain her mother's health till she got money for the surgery. Her mother, Amanda, couldn't stop thinking of her father...her father, with the thought of her father, Betty became furious, she stood up from the chair

"Why did you get married to him mum?! He abandoned us, my dad abandoned us and didn't look for us, why! Didn't he want me? he could Have just thrown me out of the house and let you remain" Betty cried, even though she was angry, she would never say anything disrespectful, that was just who she is, gentle and pure

"dont say that, your dad loves you a lot, he wanted to stop me from taking you but I didn't listen, I forcefully took you away" Amanda tried to explain but Betty was still hesitant to believe

"mum, who is my father?" the now calm girl asked with tears in her eyes, she wasn't demanding, she was pleading

"I am sorry but I can't tell you that" Amanda replied looking away from her 18 year old daughter

"why, I need to know him, I need to tell him how slowly you are dying. He needs to know that you need him, he can go after he's done helping us but we need his money for now...."

Amanda suddenly touches her heart cutting Betty's speech off, Betty grabs hold of her and leads her to sit on the chair. After confirming that Amanda is fine, she stood up

"I don't want to ever fall in love because of my father!" Betty said and runs out of the house crying, Amanda tries to follow her but stops knowing Betty needed the time and space to calm down....Amanda was indeed sorry for letting her poor daughter go through all that at a very young age...she would do anything to bring happiness into her daughter's life.

"you are seriously not going clubbing tonight?" Lilian, Evelyn's friend asked unbelieving, Evelyn would never miss club for anything and now she refused to go....what went wrong

"yeah, cause her old woman said if she goes to club again, she won't give her entitlement" babe, another friend of Evelyn said

"hey, watch the way you talk bout my granny. You guys know I want those properties so I have to put up with her condition" she replied with a sigh. She looked around looking for someone before turning back to her friends "have you seen Kyle anywhere?" she asked while her friends nods negatively

Kyle is Evelyn's crush, the guy she has had her eyes on for years, since her first year in high school actually

"not really, the last time I saw him was in the party house, he hooked up with a girl"

the mention of that boiled Evelyn's blood, only she deserves to be with kyle

"get me the girl's information, I need to teach her a lesson" Evelyn replied angrily
