Chapter 14

Raylay manipulated the controls that retracted the cannons.

"Alright," he said. "Relda, take some of the younger girls and head to the Dialorian ship."

Emotion overwhelmed Relda and conflicted with each other. Either she let a child die, or she lost four of her daughters.

"Either the Curian dies, or I risk losing you four," Relda admitted, studying the faces of Ozla, Klea, Tayla, and Asia.

"Not just the Curian dies if we don't go through with this," Klea pointed out. "We started this to rescue Quadrant 3."

"Either you have to steal something to pay Eyan for us, or you let us save Hunley. And save the Quadrant 3," Asia added.

Relda twisted strands of her hair around her finger and released. She straightened her posture.

"You win," she said. "Head to the transport."

As they scrunched down toward the grass and neared the transport, events unfolded beyond their awareness.

A scarlet skinned creature with a thorny head adjusted the zoom on her scope. A digital circle spun around Relda and her daughters.

"We've got clones," she reported to a creature that towered over her. "They're leaving. Heard them say they're coming after the Curian captive. And something about rescuing Quadrant 3."

She pulled away from the scope. She and the large creature stood in a vast cockpit that had complex controls.

Laughter boomed behind her. The wide, pudgy frame of the larger creature shook as he tried to control his laughs.

"Rescue Quadrant 3," he mocked. "There's what? Fifteen there?"

He made a wild, exaggerated motion to the hexagonal cockpit door.

"Go, tell Lenn to take one of our transports. We'll see about rescuing any Quadrant 3."

He chuckled one more time and cleared his throat. The crimson creature made her way to the hexagonal door, opened it, and stepped out of sight.
