It didn't take time for them to rescue Rose. When Rose pushed Ash, Ash felt betrayed. He felt like Rose was leaving him to feel enormous pain for the rest of his life. He was determined not to feel that pain. So he thought if you want to die you have to die with me, not another way. He then pushed the water and reached Rose.
