CHAPTER 28

"Yeah, I think I just landed on my hand wrong and dislocated my shoulder." I groan, holding up my hand with the other as the creatures seem to grow in number. "Where are the guys?" I ask.

"I have no idea, here let me help you pop it back." She says, and before I had time to respond or even react, she grabs my left hand and jams the bone back in place.

The sickening sound of my bone resetting, as well as the brief stint of pain, caused me to scream. Relieved in not less than a couple of seconds later, I peer up and wonder just how much more of these creatures are around and where the hell they're all coming from.

And just as that thought crosses my mind, all of a sudden a large burst of wind wrapped around us like a hand sweeping through as all the cloudy fume surrounding us gathers into a large rotating ball hovering in the air. Ahead stood Kevin Hatch with his mask off, his hands spread wide by his side, the whites of his eyes covered by a dark coat of black as he glared at the large ball he created.

Raising his head sharply, he throws his hands into the air and we watched as the large rotating ball of fume was aimed at the vicious flying demons circling the air above our heads.

They practically encircled the entire sky, their numbers almost in hundreds which are very frightening to gaze at or think about.

"What the hell are they?" The female beside me pulls off her mask in shock, her eyes wide in disbelief.

Staring at the large creatures with bony ribcages and blackbird wings, a bird-like head and a long skeletal tail, I glare at the familiar sight of demons and growl in distaste.

"Rawks, massive demons that fly in flocks, and swoop down on their prey, tearing them apart with talons they sprout from their sides." I hiss, and just as I said that two of them head directly for the blonde and i.

Out of nowhere a large, white Lycan wolf jumps over our heads and tackles one of the Rawks as it swoops down. The large wolf dodges in time by tilting its head to the side when the Rawks spat out a lethal spike from his mouth, and I get distracted by the other one still lunging for us.

Pushing the blonde out of the way by shoving her to the side, I call onto my powers and raise to one knee. Placing my hands over the gravel of the bridge we're currently sitting on, I feel tingles of energy vibrating beneath my palm and unleashed my powers, letting several twisted roots burst out from the ground and wrap around the Rawk just before it could get to me.

Raising a hand into the air, I made the root twist around the large creature and hold it captive in the air, its screeching cries increasing as I made the root wrap itself even more around the creature until it began to suffocate.

Summoning a long sword into my other hand, I rise to my feet and pull off my mask before racing forward, running along the thick length of the root until I got closer to the Rawk within its grip.

Letting out a roar of rage, I raised my sword over my head with both hands and drove the blade down over the Rawks head, cutting it off in one smooth move. Ignoring the thick splash of dark demon blood that spatters across my face and body.

Tumbling in the air, I made sure to land on my feet before rolling to the side on my back when I spotted another Rawk heading in my direction.

It raised a talon to swipe at my face but stops midair with a jerk as something or someone from behind grasps one of its wings, causing the demon to turn with a vicious glare over its shoulder.

Following its line of sight, I glance down to see the blonde female had caught one of the wings in her grip, struggling to keep him within her grip as the Rawk tries to get her to release its wing by trying its best to fly high into the air with the other.

Turning to me, she says with a grunt of effort, a coat of yellow replacing her light blue eyes with an expression of rage. Indicating her true identity as a shifter.

"I've got this one, help him with the other." She says, tipping her head to the side.

I turn with a glance and spotted multiple Rawks pouncing on an agitated Kevin Hatch whose struggling to fight them all off.

I turn back around when I hear her feminine scream and glance up in surprise to see the Rawk she held onto had used her distraction to take control once more of the hostage wing.

Flying high into the air, the Rawk takes her on a ride and for a second I was worried she would fall off, but she managed to dig her claws into the skin of the wings and climbed her way up the creature's body until she got on it's back.

Reassured about her ability to take care of herself, I hurry over to the dark warlock and raised my sword in the air. Dropping to my knees at the last minute I slid my body beneath one of the Rawks and ran my sword up across its midsection.

Making dark globs of thick liquid filled with guts and gore, to pretty much pour all over me as the Rawk lets out a screeching cry of pain. It dropped to the ground with shallow breath and quickly died, and I turn my attention to the rest.

The fight with the Rawks became so overwhelming and tiring that I couldn't take it anymore, it was as if the more we fought and killed these demons, the more appeared.

I have several scratches on my body, several places on my thick suit torn with claw mark gotten from the talons of the Rawks. There's also a deep, bleeding gash down the length of my back which I know is poisoned already.

The shifted Lycan currently has various amounts of cuts on its large furry body, the dark colour of its fur not even able to hide the blood spilling from his wounds.

The female shifter currently has a deep gash on her left ankle due to the large spike sticking out of her leg, but she struggles to fight despite the limp in her steps or the blood she's quickly losing.

And as for the warlock, out of the rest of us he seems to be the only one in good shape while fighting. Though his slow rise to exhaustion is quite apparent.
