Black

Blake POV:

At Ruby's instruction, I make my way to oppose Sapphire on the platform. When I get there I turn my attention to my opponent. She stands across the platform with her mask and hood up, as well as, her sword held at her side, with one hand.

My prospects of winning this duel are slim to none, but I guess that was never the point. We already have some knowledge of Sapphire's abilities due to us watching her initiation, so Ruby likely set this up so that Sapphire could get a cursory understanding of how we all fight. I'll try my best here. There would be no point otherwise.

-Fweeeeee!

At the whistle I dash in, and so does Sapphire. When we meet in the center I strike first with a diagonal slice from the blade in my right hand, but this is parried. I follow up with a horizontal strike with the sheath in my left hand, but that is knocked to the side.

Using this opening she made, Sapphire throws out an upwards diagonal slash, but, before it can land, I use my semblance and it only strikes an after image.

From my new position above her left side, I slash out with my blade, but she notices me and reacts. A parry moves my katana to her front, and she brings her sword down on my shoulder.

Another use of my semblance brings me out of harm's way, and into a position to strike. From behind her, I propel myself into a powerful stab, but she drops down and sweeps my legs. She takes quick advantage of my vulnerable position, and before I can activate my semblance to get away, a sword slash is delivered as she stands. Then another. And another. Then a powerful kick to my abdomen; sending me tumbling.

I get up and use my semblance to close the distance, and another exchange of blows is performed. I strike with my sheath to the side of her head, but this gets parried. Before she can strike me back I deliver a strike to her shoulder with my blade, but this too gets parried.

I see that I am getting nowhere, so I decide to change my strategy. I use my semblance to open up some distance between us, and I change Gambol Shroud into its pistol form and fire on Sapphire.

This seems to put her on the defensive, but I don't deal with any decisive hits. I unload my entire dust magazine, but she blocks or dodges any shots that would've hit her. I go to reload, but Sapphire uses the break in the barrage to close the gap.

We are once again brought into melee, but, this time, I'm the one on the defense.

Sapphire sends out slash after slash, and I am forced to dodge with my semblance; only to encounter another barrage of slashes. It seems she has grown used to my semblance.

I had tried to land a hit with my katana, but instead of defending herself like I thought she would, Sapphire grabs the blade with her left hand.

This reminds me of how she disarmed Weiss, but Gambol Shroud's ribbon is wrapped around my arm and can't easily be disarmed.

I try to use my sheath to deliver a jab to her stomach. In response, she forces it aside with her sword, and, before I could follow up with another strike, her left-hand starts to glow silver. Ice starts to build up and travel down my katana. The ice quickly reaches my hand and travels up my arm.

My aura blocked the damage from that attack, but the cold distracted me long enough for Sapphire to deal a devastating diagonal slash across my chest. She then released Gambol Shroud and kicked me away.

I shook off the ice and stood up, but I didn't move in to attack.

-Fweeeee!

My aura was in the red.
