The Search Begins

Ruby POV:

I couldn't sit still, mentally or physically. No matter how many times I tried to convince myself that Sapphire's fine, I still found my mind drowned in worry. The seconds felt like minutes as I compulsively checked my scroll for the time. My foot repeatedly tapped the ground without my conscious effort, and my worry revealed more and more of itself to the world. It was only a matter of time until someone noticed, or maybe they already have, and just held their curiosity. Regardless, I waited. I waited as Blake, Yang, and Weiss comfortably chipped at their meals.

Am I just overthinking this? Probably, but reason seems to be taking a backseat at this moment in time. I realize well enough that Sapphire is strong. Strong enough that is, but I just can't seem to flush out my worry, so as the seconds turned to minutes I impatiently waited for my teammates to finish their meals.

-------------

Even if it felt agonizingly slow, time still did pass, and one by one everyone finished eating. We said our goodbyes to them JNPR and made our way out of the cafeteria. Not a moment went by before I spoke.

"We should look for Sapphire," I directly pointed out.

"Is that what's been causing you to fidget like an addict experiencing withdrawals?" Weiss harshly pointed out.

"I do not believe Sapphire to be so helpless as to need our assistance finding our dorm," she continued.

"Yeah, Sis, Sapph's probably fine," Yang added, "Besides, you already got her some dinner, so what's there to worry about?"

What's there to worry about, huh? Not much, I guess, but, still, I can't shake that voice in the back of my head telling me something is wrong.

"She skipped dinner, Yang," I stated concisely assuming that one sentence would clear it all up, but…

"Yeah? She's been avoiding us all day, I don't see how this is different," Yang spoke.

I was going to elaborate, but I was beaten to the punch.

"Even then, this is the first time she skipped a meal..." Blake let out solemnly and everyone went silent.

In this silence, I once again stated, "We need to look for Sapphire."

This time, no one argued, and, so I continued.

"Let's split up, I'll," I state, taking the time to point toward myself, before continuing, "head back to the training arena. That's the last place we saw her, and someone might have seen where she went."

"Weiss," I point at the white-haired heiress, "You will find some of the staff. Find out if they have seen her anywhere."

"Yang," I point to my sister, "Since you're the most sociable here, I need you to speak to any students you find."

"Finally, Blake," I point to my bow-wearing teammate, "You will stay around the dorms. There is a chance she is already there or may return there at some point. If this happens message the rest of us and we will return."

I take a second to make sure everyone understands their role before continuing, "You are free to pursue any leads you happen to find, except for you, Blake. You should stay near the dorms, so should pursuing a lead require you to leave, then message one of us and we will pursue it instead. Be sure to inform the rest of us should anyone find anything of note."

"Got it," I pause, "great break.

As soon as I finish everyone moves to complete their respective tasks, but my sight brushes over Sapphire's meal, still held in my hand.

"Oh, yea, Blake," I quickly yell out to get Blake's attention, before she gets too far away.

Blake quickly turns around and brings her attention back to me.

"Yeah?" She askes, confused as to why I was calling her back after finishing the conversation.

"Since your going to be over there, Could you drop off Sapphire's food in the dorm?" I ask with an awkward smile.

Blake just takes the bag of cardboard cartons from my hand, and silently continues on her way to the dorms.

With that taken care of, I rush off toward the arena.
