Alison sat in silence on her bed listening to her mother's story. When all was said and done she watched the tears stream down her mother's face. At that moment she reached over and embraced her mother in a tight hug letting her sob onto her shoulder.
They stayed like that for awhile not saying a word when Daniel finally came in the room.
Outside her window the sky had turned to a shimmering gold with soft oranges and reds and a hint of purple danced across, it was sunset and Daniel had been concerned when Rose had not come downstairs with Alison for some time now.
When he approached the door to his daughters room he could hear the faint cries of his wife.
As Daniel came into the room and looked into his wife's eyes filled with tears he too thought back to their last night in Calstonia.
****Rose clung to her infant daughter as she looked upon the bloody scene that laid just beyond the door to the cottage. With a hand raised to her mouth she couldn't believe Alison; her sweet, sweet Alison, the sweet baby that she was could have caused so much death and carnage.
"Rose my darling we must go before the next group of soldiers arrive, gather what belongings we need and make hast!" Daniel said to a frighten Rose. Rose put Alison down in her crib for the last time while helping Daniel gather their things. When they were done she took one last look upon their little cottage and watched the memories dance before her eyes. Tears started to stream down her face as Daniel closed the door.
Rose and Daniel ran through the forest with Alison as fast as they could towards the castle. Once they passed the clearing of the trees they entered the flower garden that laid just before the castles moat. With the remainder of the soldiers not fair behind them Rose shouted towards the guards at their post.
"Open the gates hurry!" Screamed a desperate Rose holding a wailing baby in her arms.
Daniel stopped short just behind his family and made his stance with sword in hand ready to strike at the next soldier that made they're way through the clearing. A tall soldier with a scar down his cheek swung his mace towards Daniel's head, Daniel side stepped just in time and and swung his sword making sparks fly as the sharp metal hit the man's armor. They traded blows back and forth each man showing his strength but not making a difference on each of their favors. More soldiers started the come through the clearing as Daniel tried to catch his breath fearing the end was near as he looked up towards the castle he could see that Rose was safe with Alison and the trumpets started to sound as the castle guards started making there way towards the clearing for Daniel.
