Chapter 18: Frequency

Eli stepped into the secret doorway, trying to walk as quietly as he could down the spiral staircase. He followed the voices down to what looked like a large dining room. A dozen men were sat at a long table, talking over each other. The man at the head of the table looked bored.

Eli leaned against the wall beside the doorway, out of view. They took everyone’s phone at the venue’s entrance and he hoped he was close enough for Mr. Carlysle to be able to record what the men were saying. They seemed to be mostly discussing money and business, mostly how to gain or keep it. Your usual evil rich people fodder.

“When are we getting rid of the heroes?” a man asked. “Savior interrupted my oil deal in the Middle East. I want him gone.”

“Savior isn’t easy to kill,” the man at the head of the table replied. “He’s even more powerful than Commander Valor was.”

“Decades of wasted resources.”

“But we did get the Commander eventually. We have to be patient. Mistakes will hold us back longer.”
