Chapter29

With great effort, I pulled myself back together and looked up at him.

"Hmm… hmm… What are you going to do about your brother?"

"I'll handle it. Do not worry about Christopher. He is just a barking dog. I will have Philip take you back to my place until I know you are in no imminent danger."

I shook my head at his suggestion.

"I am not running away, Sam. I am not going into another hiding disguised as freedom. We will be fine as long as I do not open my door to another stranger."

"Debs…"

"Please, respect my decision."

He scratched his brows and sighed.

"Okay… I will not fight you on this. I can tell you feel as if I am taking over your life. But, I must have security stationed around until I am sure you are safe. I will attach Philip and a bodyguard to you for the time being. My assistant will have a new malware protected smartphone delivered to you within the hour. Do not bother fighting me on this because it is not negotiable. Your security is paramount. Either you accept it or pack up."

"We can try the security measures and see how it goes."

"Always keep your phone close. I need to be in contact with you at all times. Call me if you need anything."

"OK, you really should go back to work. I am sure we will be fine."

I walked him to the single-sitter funny looking chopper after the security details arrived and hugged him goodbye.

"Again, I am deeply sorry about how my brother spoke to you... I should have taken these security measures immediately after my first visit, knowing who my brother is, so I apologize."

"I understand how we all have that one crazy family member, so no need to apologize for his actions. You really should go to work and stop worrying about us. We will be fine."

He nodded but was reluctant to go, so I cleared my voice and got my soprano throat ready to sing.

"Off we go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun. Here they come, zooming to meet our thunder. At 'em boys, give 'er the gun."

He cleared his voice and took over the song.

"Down we dive, spouting our flame from under, Off with one helluva roar! We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey! Nothing can stop the U.S. Air Force!"

He threw his head back in laughter as I harmonized the ending for him.

"Clearance, Air Samuel Harrison 111 airways to Maxim HQTR requested."

He waited for my answer, so I pinched my nose to make it sound like air traffic control.

"Air Samuel Harrison 111 cleared for take-off to the Maxim headquarters via the Debs departure flight plan route. Departure runway 1 center, squawk 1-2-3-4."

He shook his head, and I shifted back as the blades spun.

"God, I love your personality, Debs. To think you want me to walk away from this? Never!"

His enthusiastic voice blared over the sound, and I waved with a face full of smiles as he ascended far beyond my reach.

I do not know what will happen tomorrow, but I know a storm is heading my way again.
