Into the Danger Zone PART2

"What the freck is a leg-attack maneuver?" yelled Ezra from the left side of their arrow formation with Dayrue leading as they charged at the furred ice-blaster canine.

He had only trained with the Zunbera-xefi for three days as he had changed his order only so he could volunteer for the Quest. That meant he had no idea about their maneuvers that all members had to learn to an extent.

Rue, who was more concerned about their dire situation, yelled to him as her hands were too occupied with a sword in each.

"Do what I do but attack from your side on the left!"

Though telekinesis could block attacks like ice and darts and force objects to move, it limited you to do little else as it required immense focus. Dayrue had to keep her speed as she forced shut the creature's mouth rushing towards them.

When it was close enough, Dayrue made one powerful leap to land onto the creature's head and kept running along the length of its body. Rue, with Ezra mimicking her move, kept on the ground to slash their swords into its legs from both its sides so it crashed into the ground with its snout digging through it.

Cronan, Roshar, Skinner, and the other four rattlers were in their formation to deal with the massive one that had bulldozed at them before. It had turned around to shake the ground as it lunged at them with its jaws wide apart as they were still moving to keep on track.

Even worse, the large red one that had bitten into the neck of the first creature scurried with two long front limbs alternating fast to reach them.

The three males headed straight towards one of the thick barked trees that got closer to block their path. Instead of moving around it, they ran straight ahead to do an air-flip maneuver.

The massive beast chased them towards the bark. While the rattlers split up to scurry around its wide base, the four assassins ran up the vertical bark a good height above the creature's head, before pushing their feet against it to flick over in the air.

While Cronan used his telekinesis to shut the beast's massive snout together, Roshar aimed two paralyzing arrows near both its eyes in one blow blinding it temporarily, while Skinner threw several daggers along its body to start paralyzing it.

Once their feet hit its back they ran down its body that swayed to one side before it hit the ground motionless.

They didn't need to stop and look back to notice the large crawling red one still on their tail and getting too close. With the large tree bark blocking any attempts forward they had to travel around it to get back on track and regain sight of their rattlers zipping ahead of them.

There was a good distance of cleared lands to keep going straight without meeting into any more of the wide trees. Ahead of the four rattlers from the male's group was the other group with Dayrue leading at the front. By then their two rattlers had moved back close to them.

Roshar managed to shoot an arrow behind him aiming near the eye of the beast speeding behind them. It moved its massive long front limb to hit it away. The terrifying realization that the creature was learning from observation and so the same attacks won't work twice, got him to speed up.

Soon they had covered several hundred miles and the creature persisted behind the male group at the back. Meanwhile, the lands ahead of Dayrue, Ezra, and Rue who were at the front began to rise to form a cliff overhang. They steered away onto the left onto grounds that sloped gently onto a lower level. The second they passed around the cliff on their right, the terrifying red glowing eyes that shone through the darkness underneath the overhang got their eyes to twitch.

The creature darted out of the darkness to rush through the low-level waters below the cliff with such speed it made large splashes on both its sides.

Awakened by the noise, a massive black ball with ten long legs crawled down one of the tall trees in the far distance on the left to also head to their location. Within the blink of an eye, both it and the creature that passed through the waters were speeding towards them from both sides of their formation.

The ten-legged arachnid giant came up on the left and shot balls of a bright orange sticky substance down at them. The assassins effortlessly dodged each shot without having to lift a weapon.

A tremor spread across the ground before Dayrue who was a few feet in front of Rue and Ezra in their arrow formation. Dayrue made a hard stop out of the blue and her boots made a bumpy slide over the grassy grounds. She turned to run away towards them, and once they saw her wide-opened eyes filled with terror under her hood they stopped too.

In the blink of an eye, the ground beneath Dayrue broke apart as a humongous mouth ripped from underneath to snap her up. Soon more of its body shot up into the air to tower over them casting a shadow. Two of the rattlers closer to them did not stop in time and crashed into its hard shiny surface.

Rue had no time to wonder if the rattlers or Dayrue were alright when a shiver ran up the right side of her body from the tall-jet black being getting clearer from the corner of her eye not too far from Ezra.

The male group upon seeing the humongous worm-head that began to rock from left to right as it started to lower itself back into the ground, stopped out of shock. No longer moving the creature on their tail had reached up to them and opened its mouth wide. The rattlers seeing the crowded danger and their masters no longer moving, rushed away to hide in shrubs and bushes to peek out.

Rue pulled out her two swords and their gleaming edges alerted Ezra to look away from the shocking sight in front of him and to her on his right. He stepped back once his eyes looked past her to notice the ten giant legs zipping too close from behind her.

Both standing still with a distance between them Ezra read her lips as she spoke low to him. On her signal, he was to run to her and then slide to duck. He too had both swords as they stared into each other's eyes as both creatures came from behind them.

Cronan, Roshar, and Skinner, who had stopped after defeating the large beast, turned to face the other one speeding towards them with its two long front limbs.

From a far-off distance inside of a cave, a moving blob of monstrosity crawled fast from out of the darkness with twenty skinny limbs below it. It made a loud shriek from its tiny mouth under one of its many folds as it headed in their direction.

However, the second the moving blob saw the larger creature that had finally made it up to them, it stopped and headed back into its dark lair.

Deep heavy breaths shot through the creature's nostrils and it soon began to look down on them from its tall height the closer it got. Its two long arms and two short back limbs caused it to crawl with its belly inches from the ground.

The three males stood still with Cronan in the center as it charged at them. Once it got close enough Cronan took one deep breath before moving both his hands in front then used his telekinesis to force the creature to stop.

The creature being so large and trying to resist his hold, pushed his feet back as he battled against the stronger force.

Skinner had already moved fast to start climbing the beast when Roshar shot two arrows at once at the still creature to blind its eyes temporarily.

The creature broke its mouth from Cronan's hold to let out a loud shriek. He had to let go of his telekinetic grip on its entire body to keep its deadly mouth shut. Realizing its body could move, it began to shake wildly from the shock of being blinded.

Skinner stabbed both his sword into the creature to hold on. Once he got to the head he spun around two daggers before stabbing their dripping red ends into its head.

The beast fell to the ground, but before it had time to get up, Roshar and Cronan began to lodge daggers around the muscles of its two front limbs.

They had to be efficient with their limited weapons as they had an entire Domain filled with even more vicious creatures to get through.

"Now!" yelled Rue to Ezra before they both ran to each other with large creatures chasing behind them.

"Slide and duck!"

They both leaned back to slide with their backs against the grassy grounds against their smooth mantles, causing both the massive beasts to crash into the other.

Rue used her sword to land deep scrapes into the legs of the water beast as she slid underneath it. But Ezra didn't think to do that as he passed the legs of the arachnid. His mind was too busy figuring out his next steps once he got up.

The arachnid revealed its mouth encircled with many rows of sharp teeth that continued to the back of its mouth before making one big bite into the jet-black beast it crashed into. Not long did it began to move its long legs to get back up.

"Crap," thought Rue as she shot up from the ground.

She glimpsed around her to see her father and the others too far away and too occupied to notice them. Loud stomps came from the arachnid as its ten feet moved to carry its heavy body lifted feet into the air towards her and Ezra.

"Run!" yelled Rue before the two began running away in opposite directions to confuse it. But it set its chase on Rue which she did not want. She wanted to be free so she could take it down from behind.

To Ezra's surprise, it opened two more eyes at the back of its ball body and used two of its long legs to dodge his dagger throws. With its focus stretched to the limit between the both of them it no longer shot its sticky orange balls at her. She wondered what was taking him so long as the giant got closer behind. She had to make a hard stop and change her direction trying to slow it down.

What happened next was so sudden it caused her heart to miss a beat. A short tremble like before started. A large ball of green mucus mixed with reds shot from the hole the humongous worm went back down through to splash onto the ground.

The slimy snot began to move from the ground until the hood moved back to reveal Dayrue's shaved head and black hair on the other side. She jammed her swords into the ground to help herself stand.

Once Dayrue's eyes observed the closer threat, Ezra and Rue running with a massive arachnid shooting its substance down at them, her eyes squinted before she activated her stealth field to disappear.

Being a master of the ability, only she could keep one up even under that much pressure and maintaining a great speed. Not long did the giant arachnid trip to crash hard into the ground after one of its many legs mysteriously got sliced off.

Before it could get back up, Ezra and Rue lodged several paralyzing daggers into it before Dayrue revealed herself to do the same. They needed enough to keep that giant down long enough. Even with such dangerous species, they avoided cold-blooded killing.

The loud moans of pain continued from the jet-black beast that got bitten but was still alive. It went out after an annoyed Dayrue landed a dagger at its throat to get it to shut up.

Ezra's tension grew after witnessing it since he had begun to fear her after what she tried to do to Skinner. He knew she of all Meras should never know the real reason he came on the Quest.

Soon the six regrouped, rechecked their path using the compass, and went off with speed. Little did they know that the giant red creature they blinded and paralyzed so it could not move had a multi-life ability.

Something began to bulge before ripping through its skin, revealing a smaller version of it. With new eyes to see it gained lock onto their scent and continued its obsessed hunt to their location.
