Death? 4

As soon as her eyes laid on the face that she saw in the water, her entire mind was blown away.

She went into a daze as she felt that the world was playing some sort of weird game with her.

'What exactly is going on here?'

"This.. this… this.. This…" She continued stuttering but couldn't speak another word after the word 'this' while her index finger directly pointed at a face that she had never seen before. This face was not somewhere else but instead was atop a body that was clearly shown as her own reflection on the surface of the water in front of her.

The man in the front took in all her expressions but still stood calm without changing his face.

When Tanzi turned her head to look at him, he simply nodded his head, "Didn't I say so?"

His voice was cool and emotionless.

But it made her feel like a bucket of cold water fell all over her.

In an instant, she regained calmness as if nothing had happened.

As if it was not her that was shocked a moment ago.

As if it was not her that stuttered a second ago.

She had faced many wonders in her life.

This simple one shouldn't be enough to make her lose her composure. Once she thought so, she had gone back to her usual calmness and gone was the shock that was etched onto her face just a while ago.

She calmly looked at her face in the water while she touched her skin and observed her 'new face'.

Beautiful. Of course she would be beautiful.

All the Elves are known to be their beauty for ages and how could she not be beautiful being one among them?

But for some reason, she felt that her body looked normal. It was way too plain.

She doesn't know if it was because of her casual clothing or because her skin looked way too rough, for some reason.

But in the end, there is some charm lacking in the body of this Elf.

If Tanzi couldn't see her pointed ears and the beautiful face, she would never believe that the body belonged to an Elf.

Instead she may think that she was some ruffian who had worked hard for others for a few centuries.

Her skin was rough as an Orc's.

If her ears were covered, then Tanzi wouldn't wait for a second before believing that the body truly belonged to an Orc.

After observing her features for a while more, she softly smiled.

The smile brought a new charm to the already beautiful face. This smile made one ignore all the other drawbacks of her body.

Tanzi herself was surprised by the way she looked when she smiled.

She turned her head to look at the Merman that was observing all her reactions silently all along.

He was surprised by her sudden calmness to this situation. Though he didn't understand what exactly was going on, from her previous reactions, he was at least sure that something did happen. Something too shocking.

He then heard her calm voice as she asked him, "What happened to me?"

He raised an eyebrow at her. Well, he too wanted to know the answer to that question, didn't he? What happened to her?

Tanzi understood his meaning from his reaction and changed her words again to ask, "Why was I in the water?"

The Merman understood this question and shook his head, "I don't know either. By the time I saw you, I saw you were drowning and was not moving either. So I came to help you."

He then gave her a questioning gaze, "Why were you drowning though? You could have swam, right? Even if you couldn't swim, you wouldn't feel suffocated underwater with your powers, right?"

When Tanzi heard his question, she did not answer him. But her mind started running at an invisible speed as she heard the meaning behind his words.

With her powers? It means with an Elf's powers?

She actually doesn't know too much about what all powers do an elf have. Hence she doesn't know what he was talking about.

But if she could decipher the meaning behind his words, she could still understand that even if an Elf couldn't swim, she wouldn't be suffocated.

But she was definitely suffocated. She knows this because that was the first feeling she had when she woke up from her 'so- called slumber'.

Why did this Elf's body suffocate then? She needs to investigate this matter in more detail later.

For now, she had to question this man who was the only one present in this scene, "Did you see anyone else in the surroundings earlier?"
