Luna closed his mouth but didn't utter a single word for a while.
"Is it still hard to say?" Kali asked impatiently. Luna shakes his head.
Kali had been waiting for Luna to say anything about it but it seems it was still too much for the young wolf.
"I was always alone playing in the garden w,while waiting for my master when something hit me. It hurts. . . *hik*. . ." Luna's voice starts to trail off and sniff back his cries.
"Master, it really hurts! I flew and hit the wall and t,that b,bad m,man start stomping *hik* and kicking me until I lose my consciousness. *hik* t,then when I,I woke up I was in a scary place. I cannot move a,and something heavy is chained on my neck. *hik* Then . . . then the scary people keep hurting me. I, I thought I would not see Master anymore -- Waaaaaaaah. I am so scared!!!"
Luna burst into tears while clinging to Kali.
"Wahhhh" Luna cried even louder.
'Kids. . .'
"What about you?" Kali looked at the staring white fox.
"I hate humans"
Kali almost raised an eyebrow to the soft voice of the fox.
"I hate fox," Kali retorted back. The fox was not part of her plans. She expected it to be gone after it healed and rested but the fox stayed and continued to endanger her plans.
The fox frowned at her remarks and stood up on all fours. "Humans are bad!!"
"Are all foxes good?" Kali doesn't mind being hated besides she is not exactly a good human too.
Luna is only 8 years old. Taking care of one child beast is exhausting enough.
The fox bares its teeth on her and starts hissing.
'Ugh. dammit' Kali sighed and put her hands up. She is supposed to be sick and she can't make any unnecessary noises and screw up her plans again.
"Okay, I'm sorry!"
The fox is still tense and continues to hiss.
'Should I just snap it's neck?'
*hik hik hik
Luna is still sobbing in her arms.
"Do whatever you want." Kali lay down and let the child beasts.
". . ." The fox begins to calm down but he still looks at her with hostility.
Kali wanted to push away the fox badly but she felt like she would agitate the fox if she said more.
'Argh. my life.' Kali groans internally.
'At least if this plan goes well, I will achieve three things. First is those people who are after the code will lie low. The rumors spread out but it was controlled, instead of poisoning, the rumors circulated as illness but for those who knows about the poison, will not take the slim chances of winning, against the Alexanders, afterall I am still officially and publicly still known the long lost beloved daughter of the Alexanders.' Kali felt strange while thinking, like there is an uncomfortable feeling inside.
The next day, the news about Alexanders going back to the south spread in the capital like wildfire. The rumours about the unconscious daughter of the Count was diagnosed with incurable disease. The Alexanders kept their mouth shut but different kinds of rumors are circulating except the rumor she was poisoned.
"Explain." The old king sitting on his throne tapped his arm rest.
"Your majesty, The young lady is not suffering from a disease but she was poisoned."
"Oh ho! What a brave soul you have! You manage to poison Konrad's daughter and manage to keep your head."
The king knows that if Konrad knew about the poisoning he would already have their heads but seeing it is still attached to their necks, He can't help but applaud.
"No, your majesty. It's not our work." Count Holwaldy sweated as he denied such scary thoughts.
The king dropped the mood with a disappointed face. "If not you, who in the world did?"
"Your majesty, if I may." The king looked bored at the bowing Viscount beside the count.
"Go ahead, Lord Holwaldy."
"It is true that I gave something to the Young Lady but it was only a harmless natural herb with losing consciousness for a minute or two as a side effect. "
"Natural herb?"
"Yes, your majesty, it is a personal medicine, I concocted."
"Hoho. Continue."
"She drank only a small amount and fell unconscious after and I thought that as a doctor I can freely check her pulse and check her code in the process but her guard won't let us anywhere near her thus failing on checking her code. Only when Count Alexanders arrived he let me draw some of her blood and test. . . "
"And? Seeing your head still attached to your neck, you weren't caught."
"Ah. . . yes, your majesty. My medicine is undetectable." Viscount is confident in his own medicine. He would be very proud right this moment, if not only that night still sent shivers in his spine.
"A different sleeping poison was detected and aside from it several pre-existing deadly poisons were detected. . ."
The king frowned as he tried to analyze the report.
"Your majesty, we paid several doctors that visited Lord Konrad's manor to treat the young lady and all said the same thing and the results are all identical. Her body is swarming with several poisons." The sweating Count added
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Tell me what you think about it?!" The king's boisterous laugh echoed in the throne room. The Lords listened to the laugh of the old king nervously.
"We don't have concrete evidence yet but after taking the Viscount's medicine, it might trigger some effect and send her into a deep slumber. . ."
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! The Gods are on our side. First returning without memories and now she is comatose. HAHAHAHAHA" Deeply pleased with the news the old king kept slamming his arm rest in excitement.
". . ."
"You remember that today is the day that Kaleena Alexanders is supposed to visit the imperial palace right?"
"?!!" The Lords flinched and gulped their saliva.
"Congratulations on not dying today." The king looked down at his subjects with a menacing smile.
With that the second thing Kali attained with her fake illness is the valid reason to avoid meeting the King.
The throne room door closed. Viscount Holwaldy called Count Delacorte away from the other 4 noble Lords. They walked separately away from them and led to a deserted place in the palace.
"What do you mean by what you said, Count?!" Viscount Holwaldy tried lowering his voice while scanning the surroundings.
"Viscount, appeasing his majesty is the best course of action now. After the failure in debutante ball, the majesty won't be lenient to us!"
The debutante ball plan failed miserably. Preventing the rest of the family from coming was the first failure then even if the count managed to stray away Konrad and Theo. The sudden disappearance of Kali made it out of control. Their people can't find her. The only thing that temporarily saved them from the majesty's wrath is the report of Kali's interest to the Count's son but even that didn't become fruitful.
"Even so, there is no evidence that tells otherwise." The Viscount is a doctor and the report about his medicine causing the comatose of Kali is falsified. He grit his teeth in frustration.
"Are you itching to separate your smart head from your body?"
Today is the King's deadline to them. The king can no longer hold the Count's time and his successor at the palace if the King successfully reads Kaleena's code without their aid. Their heads will roll away from their body.
"Count!! what if we are wrong?!!" He failed to contain his frustrations. He knows something has gone wrong.
The lady's case is indeed rare, multiple poisons swarming in her blood but no matter how much he racked his brain and drowned himself in books and research these days, he just couldn't see and explain that his medicine might have the possibility of causing comatose.
'If I had more time to examine. . . I could've. . .' The viscount almost bit his nail off in frustration when. . .
'Wait did . . he knows?' He seemed to realize something.
"Don't overthi--"
"Count! He knows! He knows! Dammit!"
"Why didn't you think about it sooner?" He mumbled to himself.
"What?! Who is he?"
"Lord Konrad Alexanders. He destroyed the blood samples and my equipment. . . because he knows that I--- He - no They are hiding something." His voice gradually became smaller.
'I was too engrossed with her condition and I----I' As a doctor, Viscount Holwaldy's second nature is to understand one's illness. Now that his nobleman's instinct kicked in, he can see it. How much they messed up.
"Didn't the doctors also say the same thing?" Count Delacorte sighed in resignation.
"That's because. . . they did the same test!"
"Huh?! What--"
The Viscount's brain is working nonstop until he slowly turns his head to Count Delacorte. Even with his glasses on, his eyes are visibly shaking upon realizing their situation.
"He knows. That's why he didn't kill me. . .What are we going to do? The count played us." Viscount Holwaldy sounded defeated and his hand started to tremble.
Kali got out of the shower. She picked up a letter from the table and tossed it to the fireplace. Today, she achieved the second thing on her list, she achieved the 'Valid' reason to avoid meeting with the King. She burned the King's invitation because she was no longer required to attend. She let a smile out.
And even without knowing, her no attendance at the king's invitation saved 6 heads of noble Lords.
