Rest day

With the rest area a little ways off, I find myself a tiny nervous at the prospect of what's to come. It takes me back to the first era when humans were first discovering they had supernatural powers. They were dying left and right, trying to see what they could and couldn’t do. Eventually, they settled into a class system similar to what they have today. Unfortanly I was born into a lower-class family like a lot were, but I had something on my side. I was in God's favor, or at least my mother was. This meant when I was about five; God sent an emissary to speak to me. He was an angel clad in gold with beautiful white hair and eyes that shined like starlight. When he came to me, that was the last time I felt like this.

I chose something ridiculous being a child, but he thought it was the right time. A bump in the road wakes Elaina. She rubs her eyes and looks over to see me sitting there in just my pants. Elaina's face turns red as she sees me.

“What are you doing like this?” she asks, confused

“I’m just enjoying the ride. My shirt was lost when in a skirmish with the chef. He’s no longer with us. How are you?” I inform her

She picks herself up and straightens out to throw one of the overhead blankets at me.

“Cover-up, you can’t be seen like this once we stop.” She tells me in a tone that seems to be more out of embarrassment than an order.

Getting this read off her, I cover up anyways, and I would hate to disappoint her. in a moment, we reach the rest stop for the night. We pull in and get greeted by a lovely opening crew. We step out, and I bring down the bags off the top. We walk into the royalty sweet—a lavish room with a silk-lined bed and a big bath enuff for me to lay in. The room smells of roses and lavender. I set the bags down and begin to unpack. It doesn’t take long, but I start to hear the trickle of water. I think she may be washing her hands, but I soon feel steam. I rise from the dresser where I was arranging her stuff to see the bath was running.

I wasn’t expecting her to bathe so soon since she hasn't eaten. I walk over to see what's going on when I get hit in the face with a dress. In a panic, I immediately turn away.

“Do not look at me; I don’t know why you would try. Now go get me some food.” She tells me as I hear her slide into a bath.

I walk out embarrassed, but luckily not in any trouble. I walk over to the head of the kitchen to find the new number two handling things nicely.

“Come over here; I need to know what we are feeding her tonight,” I yell across the room.

He runs over, bringing a platter with him.

“Poached salmon, with a salad made from seasonal greens.” He tells me

“Good, I’ll take that. Why are you looking at me like that? I ask, confused.

“Your shirt is still gone, and it’s a bit scary to see someone so huge.” He says with a bit of fear in his eyes.

I look at myself looming over them, and I don’t think about the fact that some of them are afraid of me still. I suppose it’s not every day you see a seven-foot-five-hundred-pound man. I take the plate and pat the man on the shoulder.

“It’s ok; I only hurt if it’s necessary.” I smile at him.

He takes a shuttering breath of relief, and I go to walk out when I hear him say behind my back.

“Even when surrounded with murders, an immortal monster is still far scarer.” He whispers.

I keep moving, trying not to think anything of it. I walk back over to the room Elaina is at. I walk in and see the door is shut to the restroom. I figure she must be drying off and set them off on the table next to the chairs. As I'm heating so water over the fireplace, I hear her.

“You know I never asked, but you can’t see through walls, can you?” she asks cheerfully.

“No, that’s not in my skill set,” I say, smiling at the fact she would ask.

“Well, I will need to know all the things you can do to register you for the fight tomorrow.” She yells back again.

I finish with the tea, thinking how I’ve never had to explain my powers to anyone; no one ever asked. I stand, upbringing the tea to the table, and notice Elaina standing there in a towel. I panic when I see her and spin around. I can hear her laughing.

“You really can’t stand to look at me inappropriately.” She chuckles at me.

“Why, of course, I can’t find your too important. In these past few years, I have come to make you the center of my world. To protect you, teach you, and even ensure you can make whatever choices you want in life free of fear. “ I tell her this thing with all of my sincerity.

Even though that’s the closes thing to telling her how I feel, I can’t feel right about saying it. She taps me on the shoulder, and I turn around to see her in a silver silk nightgown.

“Come sit down. I have a few papers for you to fill out. But, before we do any business, I’ve enjoyed the time we've had just talking. So I was wondering, can you tell me the story of how you saved me again.” She asks me

When she asked me, I can feel her relaxing. It’s not often I get to see her out of her element for this long; it’s so different.

“Ok, I’ll tell you, but I won't leave anything out this time,” I tell her as I start the tail.
