While studying for different examinations, Paul did not forget to experiment with his Ditto. It was around this time when his parents finally noticed that his Ditto was a shiny one, though they were quite thrilled for him. Currently, he was wondering what the difference between a Ditto with a higher potential and those that has a lower one would have. To start the experiment, Paul borrowed both Dittos of his parents. As a start, he let them all copy the same pokemon, which in this is case, was Gengar.
He viewed the data of his dad's, his mom's, and his Ditto, respectively.

Paul was able to see that the number of moves Ditto could replicate would be dependent on its potential. He was able to notice that his Ditto could copy six moves in total, compared to his parents' Dittos, which could only copy four abilities each. Interestingly, his Ditto's potential was higher than Gengar's, which was Blue, thus his Ditto was able to have one more innate move compared to Gengar, which is Shadow Ball. He wasn't sure if this was the genetic ability Gengar would learn if it's potential increased to the Indigo category or if it just made a learned move of Gengar as an innate move. Further experiments would be tested on his future pokemons.
He also tried to experiment with each of the Ditto's ability. His dad's Ditto, who has Light Green potential, hasn't activated its Limber ability yet. With the help of Ampharos, he was able to determine that his dad's Ditto could be paralyzed. However, its paralysis quickly wore off after a few minutes. However, his mom's Ditto, who has Green potential, has not been paralyzed, even after a few trials of Thunder Wave. Thus, he concluded that his mom's Ditto has activated its Limber ability. He couldn't differentiate his Ditto's ability, but he noticed that his Ditto's transformation is performed faster and lasts longer compared to the other two Dittos. He believes that through enough targeted training, his Ditto's transformation time and length would further improve.
He trained Ditto by letting it transform into his parents' pokemons and use different kinds and types of moves proficiently. He also let his Ditto to try and copy the altering face ability of his parents' Dittos. By some practice, Ditto was able to copy faces easily, however, it needed to train itself on the thickness of the mask when transforming, while taking note of the holes for the eyes, nose, and mouth.
The year after his first birthday passed by quickly. Even though it was full of studying, reading, and training, Paul felt satisfied with his progress. Also, throughout the year, there were some passing F-level quests which he was able to finish quite quickly. The system wasn't kidding though when it mentioned notifications popping out of nowhere. Sometimes, his parents look at him with weird eyes, so he began to be more careful. Experiments such as the transformation experiment that he conducted was a quest that was initiated the moment he thought of the experiment. Another was the ability experiment, which the quest also initiated the moment he thought of it. There were some academic quests that popped up when his tutor was giving him his monthly tests while some training quests were also given out by the system. Overall, he received 20 F-level quests this year, in which contributed for him to currently have 1763 Quest Points.
'Hmm.. 3 to 4 years per Pokemon Optimizer, not bad. They're incredibly useful so it makes sense that it takes that long to earn points for them. The time could be further shortened if he has higher level of quests, but he wasn't sure if he could complete them as he thinks that higher level quests are more dangerous. It was more likely he wouldn't able to finish them yet, with him only having Ditto as a Pokemon.' Paul pondered as he thought about his gains for the year.
After a year passed, again, another birthday was coming in. Today, Paul would be officially two. Despite looking like a four-year old, he was still two years old at heart. Of course, Paul was just joking… or maybe not. Anyhow, with a year of training, Ditto's strength noticeably improved; even though it did not conduct any Pokemon Battle.

Paul and Ditto were almost inseparable, as wherever he goes, Ditto goes too. It was a fun year living with Ditto, not just because it was adorable, but because Ditto could do a lot of things. It would sometimes pretend to be his parents' pokemon, then would cause mayhem around the house. When they tried to find the culprit, it has already canceled its transformation, looking innocently back at them. Whoever Ditto copied will have the bad luck of the day as they would be the one assigned with a chore to fix whatever Ditto messed up.
Additionally, whenever Paul wants to take a break from studying, he takes Ditto with him to explore the lawn outside. He was also able to walk around the periphery of his parents' breeding house. Though, he wasn't allowed to enter through the backdoor of the breeding house as the pokemons inside might get bothered. So, sometimes, he let Ditto enter by itself for it to make friends with more pokemons other than his parents' pokemons. He asked his parents when he would be able to visit the breeding house as he was quite curious regarding the number of pokemons and species inside it, how it was usually run, and by whom. They answered him that they would take him there some other time after his birthday, in which he readily agreed.
Over time, Paul was able to see Ditto loosen up. He was happy to see this as it was quite cautious at the beginning. The two other Dittos of his parents were much more behaved than his Ditto, but he wouldn't exchange Ditto for the world. His memories were full of happiness and laughter because of it. Paul was able to get Ditto from his first birthday. Now, he was wondering on what he would be able to receive from his parents this time around?
