Chapter 07: To Reveal It Or Not

When Scarlet woke up, she could hear someone outside her room. With practiced movements she was able to get into her wheel chair and wheeled herself out of the room.

"Slate?"

She thought he already left for his work, what is he doing here cooking on the kitchen. She checked the time and it was already noon, she had been feeling lethargic this morning when she pushed him to go and do his work.

"You're awake," was all he said when he looked back at her then returned to his cooking.

"Why are you here? I told you to tend to your patients," she started as she approached him.

"I have two patients here, I am currently tending on them so you should not berate me," was his answer.

"I told you I am fine. You have other pati- Two?"

She was going on with her nagging when she realized what he had just said.

She didn't see anyone in her room and didn't see anyone in the living room.

"Is Amethyst still sick?" she finally asked.

Slate nodded his head as he tasted what he had cooked.

"When did you last check on her?"

"About three hours ago, when she returned to sleep."

"We should check on her then, she must not have yet eaten," she wheeled herself to the door.

"Where are you going?" Slate stopped her and asked.

"Amethyst is alone in her unit, we can check on her now since the last you check was three hours ago."

"She is still asleep, let her be. We'll wake her up after I am done with all the dishes," he pulled her back inside.

"How did you know she is still asleep? She may be too weak to walk out," she instantly complained.

"She haven't gone out of my room yet, that means she is still asleep," he replied while pointing at his room.

"I told you, she must be weak that is why she haven't gone out of your room yet- wait!! what!??!? Your room???"

She wheeled herself to his room and slowly opened the door, there in his bed, Amethyst was sleeping peacefully.

"How did you know she was not yet fine?" Scarlet silently closed the door before asking him.

"I checked on her this morning and noticed that she was looking paler than yesterday," was his reply as he closed the lid of what he was cooking, allowing it to boil for a while.

"Hmmmm," Scarlet looked at him in a peculiar way which made Slate raise an eyebrow towards her.

"I don't know why is it that you are being like this, if I didn't look after her, you would have nagged me for a good few days. I'd rather have some peace than being berated by you over and over again," was his reply.

Scarlet sighed in the end, "I really don't get it but my intuition is telling me that my suspicion is right. That her past is that one."

Slate remembered what she told him yesterday after showing him those books, he didn't comment. Even if it was so, it was still up to that person whether to reveal it or not.

They suddenly heard whimpering sounds coming from the room.

They looked at one another before rushing to his room, there they saw Amethyst crying in bed while shaking her head.

Slate went to her and pulled her up, "Miss Evans!! Miss Evans!!"

After shaking her twice, Amethyst woke up and her eyes were filled with fear.

"Why?"

Slate stood up as he and Scarlet watched her hug herself while asking herself the same question over and over again.

Scarlet wheeled herself closer before reaching towards her hand, "Amethyst, it's fine your here. We're here, what is it?"

Her voice was soothing allowing Amethyst to snap out of her terrified state.

"Scarlet," she said barely in a whisper.

"Yes, it is me. You are with us," Scarlet smiled at her as she pulled her hand and patted it.

Amethyst slowly calmed down, "I once again caused you trouble."

"Not really, it was Slate who brought you home after all."

Slate raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, 'Why does it seem different when she said it that way?'

Amethyst didn't reply and remained quiet.

Scarlet smiled, "Slate has already cooked something, shall we eat?"

Since she was in their home, there's no point in saying that she didn't want to at the same time, she was a patient and so she has no right to reject her meal.

"Can I never return the favors you gave me?" Amethyst, after a few moments of silence, finally opened her mouth and asked.

Scarlet saw how dejected she looks, "There is."

Amethyst instantly looked at her upon hearing this.

"Help me go to places I needed to go to," Scarlet said with a smile.

"Sister," Slate voiced out intending to reject the idea.

What Scarlet wants was to write about all those things but if someone else were to do it then it would be difficult for her to accept those things as writing materials.

"It is fine, I know she would be able to do it," Scarlet said with confidence.

Amethyst tilted her head to the side wondering why Scarlet has so much confidence towards her.

"That is if you are willing, you do understand my current condition. Even if I wanted to I really couldn't go to those places," Scarlet then said towards Amethyst.

"If I can help in any way possible then I would be willing to go anywhere for you," Amethyst replied with new vigor in her eyes.

She was indebted towards them, not just today but from two years ago as well. If she can help in any way, then she would be very much willing to do it.

She was also thankful towards them for not asking anything about what happened a while ago and the reason behind her current sickness that they seem to know had been reoccurring every year.

She didn't know their own circumstances as to why they are here or why she wanted her to go to so many places, but even with their situation, they still find time to help her out. Someone who was as good as a stranger to them and could only be labeled as their neighbor.

After eating Scarlet handed Amethyst the list of places she needs to go to.

Looking at it, Amethyst found that they were all tourist spots in Baguio City, she wondered why would Scarlet want to go to all these places but she didn't ask anything, just as they did.

And somehow this point of them not prying too much actually allowed the three of them to have some trust towards one another despite not fully knowing each other yet.
