Chapter 16: And Without Second Thought

It has been a week since she left their unit in pain and she just found that a duplicate of their key was still with her.

She then remembered that Scarlet had given her a copy so that sh eno longer needs to wait for them to open the door when she comes to give what she had compiled.

'I guess, I do need to go back. I have to get new clothes and clean the place a bit. I can return it while doing so,' she thought.

Despite everything she only felt pained knowing that they knew about her and asked her to do things without telling her that they actually knew.

She felt as if her trust was once again broken.

But if she were asked if she was mad, all she could say is that she was not.

because that was the truth, she was not mad at all, she was just hurt.

She couldn't be mad just like towards her family because this sibling helped her a lot and the time they spent wasn't long enough for her to say that she had the right to get mad.

She took a deep breath and stepped out of her shop, leaving Mary to tend to it while she step out for a bit.

As she entered the building and as she gets close to her unit and theirs, she still couldn't help but be skeptical on how she will face them.

"I will just return the key and that is all," she shook her head as she said this.

And no, she didn't use the key to open their door of course.

But as she was about to ring the doorbell she heard things falling inside the unit.

She frowned, she knew that Slate was already in the hospital.

She thought about the caretaker and was about to ring the door bell again when in her peripheral vision she noticed someone rushing.

When she looked at this person, she found out that it was Scarlets caretaker.

"You're here?" she asked checking the time.

The care taker was already late for an hour.

"Good morning ma'am, my child fell sick and could only tend to him before coming here. That is why I am late," the caretaker politely said.

She already knew Amethyst because of the time she spent with them and so she had the urge to tell her the reason behind her tardiness.

"No, wait. If you just arrived, who is with Scarlet right now?" Amethyst asked in worry.

"I think she was alone ma'am. I received a message from sir Slate that he had already left."

Amethyst's eyes went wide upon hearing this and without second thought, she used her key to open the door.

Seeing how urgent her movements are, the caretaker named Linda also rushed over.

The in the living room, the wheel chair was flipped over and close to it was Scarlet, lying unconscious.

A cup and a teapot were on the floor, it must have been the one that fell which Amethyst had heard.

"Scarlet!!"

She rushed over and Scarlets pale face made Amethyst scared for her.

She checked her breathing and noticed that it was weak and the week that passed after what happened between them, Amethyst could see that she had lost a bit more weight.

"Help me get her to her wheel chair. I will then take the car to the front. We will rush her to the hospital," she instructed.

Without delay they each helped each other and placed Scarlet on her wheel chair, Amethyst then run out to get her car while Linda pushed Scarlet out of their unit. She didn't forget to place a blanket over her.

Amethyst drove to the hospital where Slate was working, S Hospital.

It took her about ten minutes to get there by using the horn of her car to make the other cars move.

Some shouts at her but she didn't care, of course not everyone would believe that she was having an emergency but she currently is and she has no time to worry about them.

Even a police in a motorbike had followed her, she let Linda spoke to the police as she kept driving and this time, the police led the way.

With his help the travel became smoother and faster, that it became ten minutes when it was supposed to be twenty minutes when traffic is considered.

Upon arrival, the security came to help and soon Scarlet was rushed in.

"May I ask where doctor Slate Miller is?" she asked the nurse station.

"He is currently in an operation, it just started and might end in two hours or so," a doctor approached her and said.

"Oh."

She didn't know what to do now actually, she couldn't let Linda watch over Scarlet because her child is sick. She was not as heartless as to not help when she was needed.

"You go ahead and go home, I will look after her and since we are already in the hospital, we can only wait. Just look after your child for now."

Linda was crying and is blaming herself for what had happened.

"There is no point in crying over spilled milk, you have a child who is sick. Scarlet would surely understand. I will speak with her brother so go now."

Linda thanked her and left.

She came to ask for a half day leave as well but didn't expect that such a thing happened while she was running late.

But seeing the look in Amethyst face, her staying there and feeling guilty wouldn't help at all.

"Could you be the neighbor I heard about?" the doctor who informed her of Slate's current schedule asked after seeing her send away the care taker.

Slate had talked about Amethyst because Gabriel once saw him walking around with a lady. Though he still has no idea just what it was that Scarlet was trying to finish.

Amethyst looked at him and he smiled in return extending his hand towards her.

"I am Gabriel Fernandez, a co worker and a friend of Slate."

"Amethyst Evans," she replied before looking towards the path where Scarlet was taken for check up.

"Shall we go and check on her?"

She nodded her head in response. She went there to return the key but didn't expect that such a thing would happen.

She was able to judge things calmly but currently she felt worried.

They reached the room where Scarlet was placed and she was already in IV drip.

"I shall inform Slate of what had happened, you don't look good yourself. You even sent the care taker away. A sofa is there you should really take a rest," Gabriel suggested seeing her tired look.

"Thank you," was all Amethyst was able to say.

Seeing Scarlet lying on the bed made her realize that Scarlet was indeed very sick. Somethings he had been neglecting all this time as she spent time with them.

And she hoped that this didn't happen because of her walking out on them without letting them explain.

Guilt crept in her heart as she thought of this and she remained sitting beside the bed not realizing that the time had already ticked by.

When Slate stepped out of the operating room, Gabriel was already there.

"Your sister was brought here two hours ago. And as a doctor monitoring her, I think you understand that this is not something new or something to be shocked about."

Scarlet was very sick and is dying, that is the truth that they could no longer change.

"Was brought here? How did she get here?" he asked worriedly as the two of them walked towards the room where Scarlet is currently in.

"Miss Evans and the caretaker brought her here in miss Evan's car. She was the neighbor you were talking about who was helping your sister right?"

Slate looked at him in shock, he didn't expect to here Amethyst's name.

"Though you should advise her to rest, I could see that she too might end up falling sick with her current look," Gabriel placed a hand on his shoulder and said.

He felt bad for Slate who was currently being surrounded by sick people.

"Thanks," Slate answered before he entered the room and there he saw Amethyst sitting beside the bed with a blank look on her face.

"Miss Evans."
