Her Bitter Memories

Amethyst was looking at Eduard in confusion.

They are in Scarlet's room while she was sleeping.

"I think what I said was straightforward enough though, for you to look like that," Eduard chuckled.

"No… I mean… A contract?" Amethyst was looking more and more confused.

"Yes, I want to offer you a contract for our company, as an author," Eduard replied using his business voice.

"Wait, isn't this a bit too sudden?" she asked again.

"Maybe but since you will be inheriting her legacy, I think I am just taking some insurance?" Eduard replied.

Amethyst raised an eyebrow at him.

He smiled with uncertainty, "Well, basically I am also giving you some security."

"Security about what?" she asked.

"I saw you this morning together with Slate, that man pestering you," Eduard then said.

Her lips parted about the realization of the real reason why Eduard suddenly offered her a contract.

"Slate told you?" she asked.

Though she wasn't mad or was she uncomfortable with others knowing of it. She knew that the people Slate talked to about this wouldn't be too nosy as to make it into the media for them to have a feast.

"He did but after hearing your conversation this morning, I knew that man would keep on pestering you. They should be happy that despite us being part of the circle, we haven't told anyone about the truth. We respect your choices after all," Eduard replied.

"It is not that, I don't want the truth to be out but that I just don't want any more trouble or chaos. Yet in the end, they still came for me despite me leaving them alone," she shook her head as she said this.

"I understand that, once you bring it out. You would have to face so many law files and troubles. If you don't want that then you don't have to do anything about it. But because they came for you now, we want to give you some security that they won't be causing you more trouble," Eduard replied.

Amethyst pursed her lips as she thinks about his sudden offer.

"You really shouldn't worry too much. The contract I am offering you now is simply as being Scarlet's helper. Because of Ms. Night's condition, we need someone, an author that understands the going, to help her out. As for being a full time author, we can discuss that in the future," Eduard explained.

"But this is still too sudden," she couldn't help but say.

"I told you this is just for security purposes. This way those people wouldn't be dragging you out to be part of their company just because you are a free-lancer. Though yes, we could say that you could keep on rejecting them and avoiding them."

Eduard moved forward and smiled, "But don't you think that a barrier is better than running from place to place to avoid?"

She couldn't help but chuckle when he bobbed his brows up and down.

"Security purposes?"

Both of them looked towards the bed to see that Scarlet has woken up and is looking at them sternly.

They glanced at one another as if they were caught cheating by their teacher.

"Amethyst," Scarlet called out.

Amethyst pursed her lips before sighing, she stood up and walked towards the bedside.

"It is not that we are hiding things from you," she started.

"But I just deem them unworthy of either of our attention, that I didn't tell you anything about them," as she said this, she looked like she was really at fault for not saying anything.

Scarlet sighed, "Are you thinking I might become worried or something, that you chose not to tell me anything?"

"Something like that, but most of it is because of the reason I just gave you," she replied.

"I get your point. But since I am asking now, why don't you tell me what is going on?" Scarlet asked.

Amethyst pursed her lips again before she opened them, "Well…"

She started talking about what she and Slate thought the night before and the fact that Adam had appeared so conveniently after a month or so of her meeting Emerald.

"They dare!!!" Scarlet was gritting her teeth after hearing the whole story.

"Calm down, you are a sick person. You need to calm down," Amethyst instantly tried to placate her.

"How can I calm down if they are doing that to you?" Scarlet berated her.

Amethyst raised both of her hands, "I really am not doing anything bad, they are the ones approaching me."

She was being berated when she was the one not doing anything.

She was the one being chased, okay?

Scarlet grumpily looked at her, "You should have just kicked him up in his jewels to show him that you don't want to see him anymore."

Amethyst's lips parted at the shock of hearing such words from Scarlet.

"Get used to it, Scarlet has such vulgar mouth when she really is mad at people she didn't like," Eduard butted in.

"Shut up," Scarlet sharply told him.

He could only follow and even zip up his lips.

"Calm down, Scarlet. That is why Eduard here, is offering me an offer in the company where you also work," Amethyst said calmly.

"But you are still thinking whether to accept it or not," Scarlet argued.

Amethyst sighed, "No, I am no longer thinking about it. I am accepting it now. I will sign a contract as an author helper of yours."

Scarlet smiled instantly upon hearing this, "That's more like it. You did the right choice. Now they cannot touch you or make you return to their side."

Amethyst could only shake her head in defeat as she smilingly looks at Scarlet, who seemed invigorated somehow because of her answer.

Scarlet then looked at Eduard, "What are you waiting for? Where is the contract?"

"I'm going to get it now," Eduard stood up instantly and left the room.

Scarlet leaned back on her pillow with a contented smile, "I am very much at peace knowing that you are somehow protected from them."

"I'm not exactly protected though. But at the very least, I have a barrier with me now," Amethyst replied with a shake of her head before walking towards the table.

She was having her breakfast when Eduard came and talked to her.

"Are you hungry?" she asked Scarlet.

"Nope, maybe later. You don't seem too happy about being protected," Scarlet replied.

"That's not it. But I can tell that they would surely come as well," she sighed.

"They?" Scarlet asked.

"The ones who give their full support to Emerald no matter what she does," Amethyst replied with a tired sigh.

"Are you talking about your parents?" Scarlet asked seeing how tired Amethyst seemed.

"When Adam appeared last night, I knew that Emerald had informed them of my whereabouts. And since he came, if he were unable to make me return. I guess the parents will be the next," Amethyst answered.

She leaned back at the chair after closing off the container of the food she just finished eating.

"You don't want to meet them?"

Amethyst shrugged, "I don't know but just remembering them makes me feel so tired, what more if I were to see them again?"

Then she scoffed, "With them running their mouths about my sister and how much I should help her to make them proud. Just how funny is that? I only make them proud when I was able to raise her status."

"Amethyst," Scarlet called out.

Amethyst snapped out of her bitter memories and looked back at her.

"Don't think too much about them. If they come? Just push them away. They don't deserve even just a moment of your thought. They don't deserve even a second of your time, as long as you can, keep leaving them behind if they were to try and speak to you."

Amethyst blinked a few times hearing her say this.

"They can call themselves as your parents but you don't have to because you never felt their presence as your parents all your life."
