Interloper

Daniel sprawls his arms and chest wide around him, letting out an enormous yawn that quivers the bedframe in lassitude.

"You should get some rest," Noe tells him. "I'll probably be leaving for a while tonight."

"You want to go help the children," Daniel knows.

"I do," Noe confirms. "I can feel that you're tired so don't wait up for me."

Contesting, Daniel says, "You're tired too. You haven't slept more than three hours a night all week. If you can still walk and talk after all that then well-rested me can come with you."

For a moment, Noe wants to disagree but the thought of telling Daniel to remain behind while Daniel is staring up at him so expectantly paralyzes Noe. In the end, Noe agrees, "I would refuse but I can't say no to your desires."
