*Kei Machida's POV*
//July 22, 2040//Sunday//
When we entered the laboratory, Kanade lent me a lab gown that I need to wear. I wore the lab gown that she lent me as well as goggles, a surgical mask, and a pair of latex gloves then the two of us disinfected our exposed skin
"Are you ready, Kanade?"
"Y-Yes!."
*SPSHHHH*
I raised the temperature of the cryo-chamber where Shinsuke's body was frozen, and the ice quickly melted away.
"L-Let's transfer the body to the dissection table."
The two of us carried the body over and placed it on the table.
Even though Kanade wants to do this, I noticed that her hands were shaking terribly.
Shinsuke's body was as cold as ice when we carried it over, and it must be because of that reason that she is starting to get nervous.
I'm worried if she will do fine in this dissection because right now, this might not work at all.
"Hey, are you really okay?" I asked.
"Y-Yes! I-I'm fine!"
No, she is not.
"Don't worry. I'll assist you if you need any help, Kanade."
"U-Umm! O-Okay…"
I hope that we are going to be fine.
We removed Shinsuke's clothes first, and Kanade prepared the tools needed for dissection. After that, she disinfected the whole body to prevent any foreign substances to come in contact with the insides of the body later that can possibly affect the dissection.
"Machida, can you please use this syringe to suck all the blood that is left inside Shinsuke's body?"
"Where do we need it for?"
"I don't know… Maybe we can find something useful if we studied his blood."
I didn't ask any more questions since she is more knowledgeable in these kinds of things than I do. I took the syringe and stabbed the needle in one of Shinsuke's veins.
*SCHPSHHH*
The blood started flowing through the tubes and went inside the blood bags. It was still fresh thanks to Kiyoko who thought of putting his body inside a cryo-chamber rather than disposing of it.
It is taking a while to collect all of Shinsuke's blood so I wonder how Kanade is doing since she isn't doing anything at all.
"Hooo… Hooo…"
She was taking deep breaths with both of her hands on her chest. I can't blame her for getting tense since this might be the first time she is dissecting a dead person's body.
"Kanade there is no blood going through the tubes anymore."
"O-Okay… Can you please store all of the bags inside that freezer over there? I want to examine his blood tomorrow."
I followed her instruction, and stored all of the blood bags inside a freezer inside this laboratory.
I'm quite worried if it is the right thing to do to leave Shinsuke's blood here when Ichi is watching. But if Shinsuke's body was still inside here after all this time, with the assumption of Ichi knowing about this, then we just need to take the risk and store all of these inside here.
When I went back to the dissection table where Kanade is, she is still taking her deep breaths, and she is way stiffer than before.
"Hooo…"
She took out the scalpel from the dissection kit, and the next thing I felt was a sudden change of vibe inside the room.
"The dissection will now commence."
The way how she said that. It's not like the stuttering Kanade that I knew earlier.
From the anxious girl before who probably couldn't even hold a knife, it felt like Kanade has now entered another world with that concentration she is showing.
That's right, I remember. When I was looking at Hyakuzawa's injuries from what Kiyoko did to him two days ago, I overheard what Megumin said about Kanade.
"When we watched Kanade do the treatment for the three of you. I was really amazed! She looks like a different person when she gets serious."
So this is what Megumin is talking about.
I thought that Kanade would be afraid to slice through Shinsuke's skin, but without hesitation, she slit through his body and opened the left part of his chest.
"I think it would be the best choice to look inside his heart where his blood flowed out before when Ichi used that finger hand of his when all of us first met inside the gym."
"O-Okay…"
Now I am the one who is getting tense from what she is saying.
But this is great. If she can pull this off, then we might find something useful.
Yuuki Kanade. I heard from the information that Shinohara has given to me that she is someone who excels in the field of Medicine, and Biotechnology. She has even published a lot of papers in the medical industry at a young age which professional doctors found to be interesting.
"Machida, the medicine trays, please."
I remember that she wants to be a doctor, and if I remember correctly, that career is a tough path to take.
But…
"Machida, I said I need those medicine trays."
Damn it. I didn't hear her because I'm lost in my own thoughts again.
"Here you go."
*CLANG*
When I was about to give these two stainless medicine trays to Kanade, I accidentally bumped into some of the equipment that she was using and produced a loud metallic sound.
"Please do not make any unnecessary sounds during the procedure."
"M-My bad…"
Seriously, that concentration of hers, and how calm she can be are something else.
She is starting to get scary. Is she even aware that she is now holding the body that she was scared of touching before?
But her techniques are exceptional.
When she placed a part of Shinsuke's flesh, and ribcage on the trays it was perfectly cut well without any errors at all.
"Now I'm going to take Shinsuke's heart out."
Kanade has taken Shinsuke's heart out of his body successfully, and she placed it on the other tray that I gave her before.
I noticed a small hole in the heart, and I think Kanade also noticed this as well, and she proceeds to cut right around where the hole is located.
*SCHPLORGH*
When Kanade slit through Shinsuke's heart, some blood that was still left inside gushed all over Kanade's face.
"Kanade, here. Wipe your face off using this."
When I tried lending her a towel to clean her face, she ignored me and continued slicing deeply into the heart that she is working on.
"I don't need it."
Impressive. That's the only word I can describe her on what she is doing.
While Kanade was slicing through Shinsuke's heart, I noticed her getting flustered a little, and she looked at me.
"Machida, can you please get me the forceps."
I quickly handed her over the forceps from the dissection kit that is used for getting small objects, and she quickly took something out of Shinsuke's heart.
*CLANG*
When she dropped on the tray what she found, my eyes widened when I saw what she got.
"A bullet?"
It wasn't any bullet that I have seen before from guns that people use. It was tiny and thin. At first glance, this might not look like a bullet because of how unusual it looks, but the two of us know that this was indeed a bullet that was from Shinsuke's heart.
I started asking myself some questions that I want to know right away.
Why is there a bullet inside Shinsuke's heart? Was the finger gun that Ichi showed us just a fraud? No, it can't possibly be. Did the shot come from a gun all along? But if that is the case, why did he use a gun made by humans if he has supernatural powers?
This doesn't make sense… Damn it… Why? This is getting more, and more complicated-.
"Machida."
When Kanade called me out, I came back to my senses and looked at her.
"We are still going through the procedure. Please focus on the dissection first."
That's right I need to calm down. I am starting to embarrass myself in front of her.
After Kanade got the bullet out of Shinsuke's heart we proceeded in dissecting Shinsuke's whole body.
Just like what I said earlier, becoming a doctor is a tough road to take, and if someone is planning to be one then they should be ready to go through the thorny path that they need to bear.
But with Kanade's skills…
She is already amazing enough, and her techniques even surpass some of the greatest doctors all over the world.
Creating medicines that are better than what society has today is a commendable achievement already. But this…
How Kanade dissected every part of Shinsuke's body like a butcher slaughtering a pig with accuracy to get all of the meat that is needed for cooking.
It is truly amazing.
After a few hours, she successfully dissected Shinsuke's skin, flesh, bones, and organs with precision like a robot. Every cut she made was clean, and someone who can witness this will probably think that a genius surgeon is the one who made this.
Her skills aren't just like a student's at all. It's just like a professional's.
"Aaaaahhh…"
After the dissection, she suddenly collapsed on the floor with both of her knees, and she started shaking again.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Aaaahhh… I'm sorry! I was really nervous back then!"
What? Does she even know what she is talking about? Do you mean you are still nervous back then after what you just did?
"You did great."
"B-But Machida… I'm sorry…"
Kanade was devastated after she dissected Shinsuke's body, and I understood why she was acting this way. While we are dissecting Shinsuke's body after we found the bullet inside his heart, I thought that we would find more clues about his death when we examine his body. But, aside from the bullet inside Shinsuke's heart, other than that…
"It's fine, Kanade. You did your best."
We found nothing.
"So what are we going to do with all of these?"
"I-I guess we need to dispose of it now that it is over."
"I guess you are right."
The two of us carried over all of Shinsuke's remains except the bullet that Kanade got out of his heart, and disposed of it inside the incinerator.
We stood over there and watched until Shinsuke's corpse turned into ashes.
"Aaaah… I'm sorry that the only clue we got was that bullet…"
"Honestly, that clue itself is a big thing already. So don't get worked up."
"T-Thanks…"
Kanade is back to her old shy self.
"Do you need help in examining the Shinsuke's blood tomorrow?"
"N-No! I can do that by myself. I'll let you know or Big Sis if I find something."
When I looked at her, she was still sad about how little we found.
"Oi."
*TAP*
I gave her a pat on the back, and she was surprised by it.
"Don't be hard on yourself. Without you, we wouldn't find out about that bullet. Besides, you are still going to examine the blood that we got earlier. Let's just hope that we can find something out of it."
"O-Okay…"
"Besides, your skills are truly exceptional."
"N-No! T-That's not a big deal! I-I still have a lot of things to learn!"
Kanade was shaking her head while waving her hand in front of me. Sigh… No matter how humble you are, what you did is something that a lot of people can do, Kanade.
I looked at my phone to check the time, and it was already late.
"It's almost lights out. Do you need me to help you out?"
"I'm fine! You can go now. T-Thank you for helping me…"
Before I leave the room. I looked at Kanade one more time who was busy fixing everything that we used earlier.
I wonder…
"Hey, can I ask something to you?"
"S-Sure! What is it?" Kanade asked.
"If something happens to me. Can you be the one who will treat me?"
"W-WHA-?!"
Why did I even ask her to do that? Now it's like her mind is all over the place.
"I'm just kidding."
"N-No! It's okay!"
Kanade was still blushing, but she looked at me straight in the face with confidence.
"If something happens to you, leave it to me!"
I couldn't say anything to her response full of passion, and integrity. The only thing I could do was smile back at her.
