It took Seraphine an entire week to move on from Ferdinand.
Perhaps, up until now, she hasn't completely moved on. Then again, she spent many years with him during her previous life. He still let her experience what a father's love felt like even though it was fake. But at the very least, she is certain that she will still be able to get over everything someday.
Seraphine has already decided that she would live the way she wanted to, after all.
Even if nobody will end up loving her for real, she still has herself. She won't completely shut her world off from other people. Not interacting would be impossible. But she would make sure that she won't grow attached to anyone again. She will set her boundaries.
As long as she has this power, she will never hope for too much.
'Unlike me, there seems to be someone whose future looks increasingly bright…' Seraphine thought silently as she watched a crowd gather all around this certain orphan whom Ferdinand ended up choosing.
'Out of everyone here, it just really had to be Historia Carmina.'
Everyone is outside of the front lawn of the orphanage at the moment, saying their respective farewells to the fortunate orphan who was able to catch the interest of the Count last week.
Right now, Historia may appear as this cute, little emerald-eyed redhead with long, curly hair, fair skin and a doll-like figure. But in fifteen years or so, she is nothing but a shameless vixen who will pretend to be her best friend while she makes out with her husband behind her closed doors.
Apparently, Historia was the main villainess in Seraphine's second life.
Not only was she the mistress whom Skye had secretly been seeing, but she was also her best friend. She had put on an act in front of her, stabbed her back as soon as she looked away, and took advantage of her kindness.
'During the first day I woke up here, I failed to notice that she was actually an orphan here too. I should've paid more attention, especially since I didn't have any memories of this period. Now, she ended up to be the Count's adopted daughter instead of me,' Seraphine continued to ponder while she proceeded to observe the redhead from a distance.
In her previous life, Historia was Baron Helios Carmina's adopted daughter.
Now that Seraphine thought about it, she was only next to her when it came to beauty and elegance. Even way back then, the two of them were often being compared since they always seemed to be competing with each other when it came to those attributes.
That's most probably the reason why Ferdinand had chosen Historia out of everyone there – and why Helios selected her before.
At that time, despite being the adopted child of a noble with lower status, she was able to inherit quite a hefty amount of wealth and thrived in the world of commerce. What actually pulled her rank all the way to the top of the social circles was her reputation as an investor of a number of successful businesses.
Because of the Baron's inheritances, Historia became that rich and influential at one point in history.
'Well, if it wasn't for her greed and envy, she could've done much better on her own instead of relying on the affluence of someone else's husband.'
It turned out that Historia didn't get to reach the pinnacle of her endeavors because she kept spending huge sums of money and engaging in illicit activities before eventually going bankrupt.
She became careless in handling her finances when she got too carried away. But before she could reach rock-bottom, she came up with the scheme to get close to Seraphine and seduce Skye. With her connections back then, it was easy for her to manipulate her. She made her think that she was the best of best friends, but she turned out to be one parasitic hypocrite in the end.
'I should've known, though – or at least, I should've been wary. After all, at that time, there had already been some rumors going around. They said that she was the one who actually plotted Baron Carmina's death.'
