Choosing Their Own Fates I

Only when Eric told Seraphine about it did she realize that she had actually done something that she kept avoiding all this time.

She swore that she would never get close to anyone again. Though there was the probability that he was not influenced by her power as a succubus, considering that he was blind and he had certain circumstances that made his kind treatment to her understandable, she did not want to take another shot at that cycle of abandonment and estrangement.

Aside from that, it would not be good for Eric to stay with Seraphine.

First of all, she can't provide for both of them. She is even barely surviving on her own. They'll only bring each other down - she'll only bring him down, rather. The palace is where he truly belongs and not in the streets. There, he can unleash his hidden potentials, get all the training and studying he needs to develop, earn power for himself, and most of all, have a better chance of surviving than her.

'Though I condemn that he's being mistreated and discriminated for his physical disability, I can't give him a better life. I don't even know what I'll do after I send him to Baron Carmina. The orphanage is no good anymore. Those scums from the underground might go after me again, especially after learning what we have done back in the auction,' Seraphine thought in silence, trying to figure out what to do at this point.

"I don't want to be separated from you, Seraphine..." Eric continued after earning nothing but her silence and sensing that she was going to turn him down.

"If I have to live out in the streets or something, then I will do it."

"Eric, you can't be saying that you want to be a street child now. Life is crueler there than what you think."

"But I really don't want to-"

"Besides, you promised me something, right?"

That's when she cups both of his cheeks and starts stroking them, making him blush and feel giddy.

As he thought, her touches are so soothing and warm that he is afraid he might begin craving for more of them. It may be because he was never treated this way by anyone before, but even when it was someone else who first did it, he was sure that her existence was already engraved deep within him.

He really does want to stay with her.

"Go and build you own world..." Seraphine trailed off, repeating what she said when they were still at the backstage.

"You promised me that you'd do it, right? I know it'll be tough, but I have faith that you can do it. You did manage to rescue me earlier, and you can so much more. Don't let anything stop you - not even your blindness nor that darkness you told me about."

"S-Still, I don't think I-I can," Eric stammered out, deeply touched by how much she believed in him.

"Yes, you can. I'll be working hard too. Let's struggle more - endure for a while longer. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end - I assure you."

If Seraphine continues talking like that, Eric thinks that he will definitely end up yielding.

"Four days at most. We can reach the castle where Baron Carmina lives in four days."

Clement explained everything they had to do after Seraphine expressed her intention to see Helios.

Being able to earn back a portion of her trust is enough for him. That is the only reason why he chooses not to question this plan of hers. He doesn't even deserve being by her side like this again, and he understands why she remains wary and estranged to him despite everything he did to help.

All Clement can do is be of assistance to Seraphine and Eric in order to make up for the terrible things he has done - not like he expects he will really be forgiven in the end.
