Chapter 10

Each aristocratic family had their own rules to be followed. In spite of the fact that them not being in the Royal book of rules, they were still followed strictly. It was something like an unofficial rule set by the emperor. One such rule for the Savine's was that "No one from Savine family, including the butlers as well as the maids should leave the grounds of the family without the consent of the duke". It was not surprising given the Savine's lunatic personilty.

Now that a someone from the family was kidnapped, the duke was to be blamed and should take the responsibility. The emperor had no solid evidence to argue that it was not a kidnapping, therefore having no choice he gave her a punishment which was to go to the borders the coming year.

"I shall consider it a gift rather than a punishment, your majesty. Not everyone gets a chance to contribute to their empire". There was no ounce of sincerity in the words she spoke so effortlessly. She couldn't let her guard down in front of the other elders who were waiting to attack her like a pray.

The war between the two nation would start the following year. The blood shed in the war was boundless and the whole nation suffered big losses. The war would last for roughly two years which would end with the victory of their kingdom. For Violet, the entering a warfield filled with massacre and bloodbath was a nightmare. In the original plot, Violet had emerged victorious acquiring the title 'Killing machine' owing to her flawless swordmanship along with ruthlessness she showed in the war.

Refusing the emperor was out of the question so Violet's hands were tied in this matter. Keeping her mouth shut, she received the punishment and walked out of the hall. On her way home, Violet constantly sighed thinking of her dark future. Just when she was starting to get used to this world, fate threw another obstacle into her life she was not ready for.

Lost in her thoughts, Violet didn't even realize that she had reached her manor. The head butler, Tyiene, came get her for the carriage had been in the same place for about twenty minutes.

'I must be out of my mind. I didn't even know that the carriage had stopped for awhile', smacking herself for her own stupidity, she made her way towards the door. A smile rose on her exhausted face witnessing that the child she had saved was waiting for her in front of the mansion. As soon as he saw her, he ran to her to embrace her in his tiny arms.

Days went by as 'Lin' became precious to her. The little kid was named 'Lin' by Violet since he hadn't intoduced himself. Violet assumed him to be mute for he had not spoken a word during his stay with her. Ana was still in search of Lin's family sending few people to ask around.

Violet shared all her secrets and worries with him to which Lin would give a encouraging smile as if he had understood everything. She no longer felt lonely with him by his side. He had already become a part of her life without whom she couldn't imagine spending her days. Eventually she asked Ana to give up her search for his origins. She was determined to keep him by her side because the throughout the years she had spent in this household, the moments she spent with him were the most precious and happiest ones.

'I don't want to admit but its already been 11 months since you entered my life Lin. There are only few weeks left before I have to leave for the borders', Violet wondered as she saw Lin's peaceful sleeping face beside her. She had been reading him bedtime stories for several months now. Thinking back, she couldn't have guessed how much she would become attached to him the first time she met him.
