Synopsis

After being freed from slavery, Hoefen, five years later, decides to head out on a journey to find the Shorebringers, a group of mercenaries that saved his life. But to his surprise, in the five years of wait, the group that saved him has become notorious outlawed criminals. So with the help of a vagrant named Tusk and an ex-royal girl named Ceauli, he journies on his destined path to the Shorebringers.

But unknown to Hoefen, this sand-riddled world is not just as simple as butter and bread, it is filled with mysteries, monsters, ancient deities, gods, and swords of great power.

The author does a good job at explaining the entire setting of the novel via the protagonist's narration. The first chapter in particular opens up with the protagonist telling us, the readers, about this large and threatening desert world. It was straightforward, but it was more than enough for me to imagine this setting overall. The setting is probably the strongest aspect of this book from what I've read so far, in addition to the storytelling itself. In addition, direction is also clear along with the novel's characters. Again, the presentation is straightforward but in a good way, it tells you the overall basis of the protagonist and further details about his character would be told later on. My only criticism of this book is the fact that it has giant paragraphs in some chapters. The content itself is fine, but it seemed like a wall of text. While I can excuse it, I would strongly suggest the author to provide more spaces for the paragraphs, so it may be easier to read for mobile readers. Looking forward to seeing more of this book. Good job to the author.
