A Good Day to Come

A soft breeze gently woke up Mira from a dream she couldn't remember.

This happened often when she first came to The Tower. It was worse before, she would wake up, cheeks wet, with endless tears falling. And she couldn't remember what made her so sad.

She could always feel it. Like she was close to knowing, but it would slip away, like trying to hold water in your hands. But, eventually, the dreams stopped completely after a year. It had been a while since the last dream.

Mira lifted her blanket, and climbed down the ladder on the bunk bed she and Ignis shared. She wiped her slightly wet cheeks and looked at Ignis' neatly folded bed.

As expected, she left early. Mira was slightly disappointed she couldn't say goodbye and wish her good luck.

When she came to The Tower, Ignis hadn't been prepared, while her living quarters were bigger than most because of her position, she had to sacrifice what would have been the master bedroom, to be her office.

So when Mira came to The Tower, Ignis had asked a friend to make a bunk bed for them. Sleeping near another person also helped Mira stop having those strange dreams.

She was about to get ready for the day when she saw a note on the clothes drawer, opposite of the bed.

Mira stretched to reach the note and took a look at what Ignis left her.

'You were sleeping so soundly, I didn't want to wake you.

I left some eggs on the table, you can use a heating spell if it's cold.

Annette will stop by soon. Remember to dress cutely and take some pictures with the memory stone so I can see!'

Mira folded the note and stored it away in a box. She kept all Ignis' notes there. The box was special to her, it was something Ignis gave her on her sixth birthday, it had two Lumin Robins carved on the top. Lumin Robins were considered to be signs of good luck. This was because you could usually find them in places with a lot of mana. Places, where Lumin Robins were abundant, were usually peaceful, and harm-free areas. There were a lot around Vassilis, so art made with the birds were popular.

Mira cringed after reading that Ignis wanted her to dress up cutely. She remembered that after staying here for a bit, they would sometimes gang up on her and dress her up.

Mira shivered while remembering one of her birthdays, I should hurry and get ready before Annette comes... I don't want to turn into a living doll.

~~~
Annette sneezed.
Eh? Did I get hayfever? She frowned, twirling her curly, garnet, hair.
Annette walked standing in front of Ignis's living quarters. She lifted her bag on her shoulder, silently wishing she had a void pouch, but that wasn't something a broke intern like her would have. Even if she had potential and experience in the flame attribute, she was still an intern in the end.
She sighed, praising Ignis for remembering to give her some gold and monster cores, so Mira could have fun. After all, the festival was mostly for businesses, farmers, and the city, to generate money. Things could be pricy.
Aside from that, seeing her cute niece smile was really fulfilling. Plus, spending time outside the Tower of Magic was good for her, she was only eight in the end.
She always felt bad that Mira couldn't make friends with kids more her age, but when Mira had met those two kids a few weeks ago, Annette had a feeling that would change.
She knocked on the door, a gentle smile on her face as she hoped for a good day to come.
~~~

Mira put away the last of the dried dishes when she heard a knock on the door. Was Annette here already? She quickly went to the coffee table to gather her things. The small handbag around her waist carried the memory stone, and some gold coins she saved up. She straightened her light blue blouse and dusted off her skirt, hopefully looking tidy.

She smiled opening the door, grinning happily at Annette.

"Morning!" Mira said, taking the room key off the key hook before locking the door.

"Hey, Mira." Annette smiled back, "Although Ignis can't be here, we'll just have to take a bunch of pictures so she'll know what she's missing."

"En!" Mira's eyes brightened, "Let's eat lots of good food, and look at the attractions."

Ah, the cherry blossom cakes were the best, it was a shame that they were specialties only served during the festival. Mira made decided she had to save a few for Ignis.

"Of course. I heard from a friend there will be some singers near the Primrose Center, they're making a temporary stage."

Annette and Mira continued making small talk, as they made their way through and out of the lobby.

The lobby wasn't as busy, but it was decorated differently than usual, flowers decorating tabletops, light pink, green, and white lanterns instead of floating candles, and even the portals had changed from their usual golden hue to green.

Mira thought it was nice that the busy people of the Tower of Magic could be so festive sometimes.

After paying the fee, Annette and Mira took a portal to the town, rather than the thirty-minute walk.

Mira was pleasantly surprised that after she went through, she didn't feel as bad as she thought. Her head was just a bit dizzy from the sudden change in her surroundings.

The portal transported them to the middle of a somewhat busy street. The 8ft tall obelisk a few yards away from them, its runes lit up, transporting people a few yards away from it every few minutes.

Magitech is really amazing... Mira couldn't help but sigh in her heart, thinking about how it was, and how it still worked so well.

Most of the magitech in The Tower was really old, two, the only thing it needed to activate was a supply of many every few days. Mira heard from Mr. Andreas that divisions that had this kind of magitech rotated the people to imbue mana in them every few days.

He told her that although it doesn't need a constant stream of mana, the amount of mana it takes from a person isn't small. And then gave her a lecture on not using up too much mana, or you might get a really severe fever.

It seemed that day Mr. Andreas had a crow's mouth because she ended up getting a fever the day after and missed a week of class.

That didn't stop her from not having any homework to work on, to Mira's disappointment.

Mira woke from her daze, pale eyes wandering to look at the beautifully decorated town.
