All Set for the Day

It turned out that Princess Nicolette literally meant to sleep in the bed with her last night, and she also clarified that I should be sleeping with her in bed during the succeeding nights because it would make her feel more acclimatized to human behavior. I didn't understand it at first, but later on after more than an hour of struggling to sleep, I realized that she might not understand the ways of the real world, and the way people think. We lived in two different worlds for most of our lives, and that can either be a problem in the near future, or a breath of fresh air for Princess Nicolette. What's not a big deal to the Underworld, may be a big deal to the Real World. Like physical contact between men and women, and how men are animals by nature. No offense to myself and to all men, but it's true. There's an aphorism that says that men are polygamous by nature, and I'd say that I disagree because there are men who can be loyal to just one woman. I know a lot of men who are like that. But I do believe that men are animals by nature. They have uncontrollable desires that need to be fulfilled and sad to say, I'm one of them. I see breasts and my valuable member just reacts instantly. I don't get a hard-on on every woman, but I do easily get a hard-on when it comes to women I'm attracted to; men are so visual. You see, women are like books. The first thing you'd notice is the cover, then you get interested and start digging deeper by looking at the contents, and when you read the whole story, that's when you'll figure out whether you like the book or not. Princess Nicolette is like that. There is no doubt that I've been attracted to her at first sight, regardless of the circumstance, and her mean demeanor. Now, I want to be able to read her and know her whole story, so that I could understand her.

It was seven in the morning when her eyes slowly opened. I was by her side, reading my book. She sluggishly stretched her arms, almost hitting my face, so I had to use the book to dodge them. She looked up to me as she turned to her right side.

"Good morning, princess."

She smiled. "Good morning."

"Hungry?"

"Yes. Very hungry."

I got up and grabbed the sliced bread that I kept on the left shelf of the cupboard, then put four slices in the oven toaster situated above the refrigerator. I opened the refrigerator and took out the whole egg carton, cracked four eggs onto the bowl, put salt and pepper, then whisked them using a fork. Princess Nicolette got up from the bed looking curious as she sat with her feet reaching the floor, facing me.

"What are you doing?"

"Cooking breakfast."

"Oh, I know what cooking is. I read about it. What I mean is, what are you cooking?"

"Scrambled eggs and toasted bread," I responded as I melted butter in the non-stick skillet over medium heat. She savored the smell of butter and I smiled at the expression on her face. "You'll like this."

"I like all food."

"Same here…well, except for a few things." I poured in the egg mixture and reduced the heat to medium-low.

"Which food do you not like?"

"Seafood." As the eggs began to set, I gently moved my spatula across the bottom and side of the skillet to form large, soft curds.

"Oh my, poor you. Had you not eaten anything in the course of your stay in the Underworld? How did you endure it without sustenance?"

"I ate the green stuff. Mostly seaweed. I can't eat raw clams and crustaceans. I can eat them when they're cooked, but I wouldn't normally crave for any seafood. I'm more into meat." The eggs have thickened and no visible liquid egg remained, so I turned off the stove and carefully moved the cooked eggs onto a plate using my spatula.

"Interesting."

"How do you feel about the food here so far?"

"Oh, they are delightful! I adore Justin's food!"

"Same here." I took out the four toasted slices of bread from the oven toaster using the spatula, put them on a plate, then set the table with everything we needed like utensils, two plates, ketchup, and two empty glasses. I finally put the eggs and toasted slices of bread on the dining table. Princess Nicolette held her arms in the air, so I carried her to the dining chair. I fetched a carton of cold orange juice from the refrigerator then filled the two glasses.

"These look good! I love the colors orange and yellow!" She was referring to the eggs and the orange juice.

I chuckled. "Okay, let's eat." I suddenly remembered that she didn't know how to use the utensils. She was about to grab some egg, so I stopped her by gently tapping her hand. "Hold on. I'll teach you how to use these." I showed her the spoon and fork. "This one's a spoon, this one's a fork."

"I know what they are. But I have never tried using them."

"Right, here's how." I showed her, and she turned out to be a fast-learner. She looked kind of funny using them, but the main function of the spoon and fork were put to use. When she also used spoon and fork on the toasted bread, I told her that it's fine to use her hand. She looked quite confused, but she obliged and didn't complain. She seemed to be very determined to acclimatize herself with the human ways. I loved how she got so excited when I put ketchup on her eggs. Her face when she gobbled on them was epic. It was like an advertisement for a tomato ketchup.

She enjoyed her breakfast and that made me proud of myself. I know I'm not a good cook, but I can pretty much cook simple food that's yummy enough. If it were Justin's breakfast, he would've probably put shredded cheese on top of the eggs, and garnished it with garden cress or caper bush, then some green and red bell pepper. That's how Justin makes every food special.

While I was washing the dishes, I glanced at Princess Nicolette who was wiggling her feet and kept stroking her hair. She was fidgety and bored. It was obvious that she couldn't wait to start to walk. "I'm almost done here, princess. Will guide you until you're able to walk."

She gave me a big smile and now, her wiggling feet meant that she was excited instead of bored.

After cleaning up everything, I helped her stand up. Since she had full rest and ate two full meals since she arrived, she had more strength than she had yesterday. She wasn't like a baby who was just learning how to walk. She was like a person who had been in a coma, and had to get used to walking again. It only took a little more than an hour for her to walk properly and I was like a proud husband, cheering for his wife who just woke up from a coma. "I can walk!"

"Yes, you can, honey!" I was surprised by the sudden term of endearment. "I meant, princess." I smiled innocently and luckily, she let that pass. Then, she started to jump up and down and move everywhere in the room like a crazy woman. She was too ecstatic, that she couldn't hold her excitement.

"Okay, don't overexert yourself, princess. We'll both be walking a lot later, so you might want to conserve your strength for now."

"Oh, yes indeed! We shall go shopping as you mentioned last night. We shall procure some clothes, accessories, and everything else that I need!"

"Yes, after we buy Hailey's birthday gift. Let's start with that first, okay?"

"I understand!" She hopped on the bed and hugged all the pillows. "I feel like I am human now!"

I chuckled.

"I shall brush my teeth, and bathe, and clothe myself, and brush my own hair, and see the world!"

"Yep."

"Then we shall marry and consummate and acquire my power back!"

"Uhm…yep, once we're ready. I will propose to you, remember?"

"Absolutely!"

"Okay, I guess…you can brush your teeth and take a bath now. We'll both go to the mall and buy everything we need. Then we're all set for the day's occasion."

And there she went. She rushed towards the bathroom as quick as a flash. Then, I heard her voice echo from the bathroom screaming, "I love being human!"

I couldn't help but smile with my dimples on full display.
