Chapter 15: The Genders

The silence overwhelmed them completely, however only Ryohei sweated over it. He evaded Yamato's soft gaze at him, indirectly denying the question. He has always wanted to avoid people figuring out his sexuality since it has recently changed, thanks to the presence of Yuki. He was not blaming Yuki for transforming him into a homo, but he just found out he could love someone else dearly by Yuki. Moreover, Yuki never forced him or such. The endearment just occurred naturally.

Ryohei took a while to respond. "Yes, I am."

Only then he noticed Yamato's shock. Yamato intensified his gaze into a glare for seconds before he loosened the tense by himself. "I knew it. I don't know why, but my instinct told me so."

A frown formed on Ryohei's forehead. "It isn't ample to be a reason though."

"Trust me. I really rely solely on my instinct. But I never thought you would admit."

"Judging from your straightforwardness, there's no point if I denied. You will press me harder," Ryohei sighed, reluctantly served Yamato, "Anything that I can help you for being a homo?"

Crap! Ryohei just realized he voiced out his mind again. He was being rude to someone who wanted to rent his house. It might alter the first impression by Yamato. Ryohei bit his lower lip.

"You don't have to be nervous. I'm a homo as well," Yamato shrugged, "Probably that's why I could distinguish you."

"I'm sorry for being insolent," Nothing could mend a hurt pride unless an apology, "I don't mean to hurt you. I'm being senseless, that's it."

"No, no. I'm okay. You don't have to apologize," Yamato giggled at Ryohei's shifting personality from a very cool man to a timid boy, "For your information, I'm a doctor. I'm on hiatus on treating people to do some research. You could be my subject if you want."

Ryohei tilted his head on one side. "What kind of research do you do?" He never wished to be a part of an experiment, however due to his recklessness, he thought of repaying to redeem himself.

Yamato clung his arm around Ryohei and whispered, "This is almost a nation's top secret. I shouldn't reveal it to you, but you seem open minded, so I will," he marched to the door and shut it.

The anticipation was well displayed on Ryohei's countenance, enthralling the doctor to share his investigation.

"We, researchers, are looking for intersex people," Yamato began his storytelling, "You know what intersex is, right? There is a hypothesis saying that those people have secondary gender. They can be categorized as Omegas. We, the non-intersex people, are classified as Betas and Alphas. However, only Alphas could mate with Omegas, regardless the gender."

Ryohei furrowed at the alien words he just heard, but he did not think of asking. "Proceed."

"Alphas and Omegas are contradicting to each other. Like male and female work. I mean, the sexual intercourse could happen between them since Omegas have both reproductive organs of a male and a female. The bottom is always an Omega, while the top is surely an Alpha."

In split second, images of Yuki came to Ryohei's uneasy mind. "Then, your research is to find those intersex? And then?"

Yamato opened his arm span. A wide villainous grin pasted on the face, "I want the Omegas to scatter themselves among the citizens."

Ryohei sent stares at the guffawing Yamato. "What happened then?"

"Only Alphas can react to their pheromones, and I want them to be mates."

The astonishment Ryohei received from the news was unbearable. This crazy doctor wanted to force a sex activity between an intersex with random people?

"Alphas and Omegas are precious creatures, Ryohei," Yamato even addressed Ryohei informally, "They are facing extinction which is not good. Plus, the higher ups said Omegas and Alphas have a special trait which only they have it. Something related to scent and bond," Yamato jeered at Ryohei, "So I want to prove it."

Ryohei's one brow raised. "It's not that ample to be a reason, still."

"Trust me. It's the easiest way for me to explain it to you. Getting deeper than that, I may recruit you as my assistant instead of a subject."

"Wait a minute," Ryohei gently pushed Yamato's arm clinging on him, "You said about intersex people. You said that I can be your subject. And you undoubtedly asked me whether I'm a homo."

Yamato nodded in every of Ryohei's revision.

"Then, do you predict that I'm an intersex?"

"Aren't you?" Yamato's grin faded almost instantly.

This time, Ryohei without hesitation shook his head. He would not concur to Yamato regardless the condition or reward he might get later. He has always heard youngsters volunteering themselves to be tested on various kinds of laboratory diagnosis in order to get the massive gifts. There was even a lifetime tests which ensured lifelong money. Ryohei did want to gain more money, especially since he has planned on marrying Yuki, but offering himself as a lab rat was out of his methods.

"Unfortunately, I'm just a normal guy. I only have male reproductive organs. I have no idea how you could estimate I'm an intersex. You may examine my entire anatomy to satisfy yourself. Although I'm a homo, I don't intend to be apart of your experiment. I'm sorry," Ryohei announced flatly. He has already prepared to go home, stepping out of the house and looking up to the colour changing sky.

The longer he remained close with Yamato, the narrower the space inside. He could not share the same air as that Yamato man, or Yamato might try to harass him.

"Well, young man. I warn you not to go out frequently," Yamato stood at the entrance with his arm propped his body.

Ryohei inhaled while shifting towards Yamato. Yamato smirked at the perplexed Ryohei. "Why?"

Yamato did not immediately reply. He tapped on his bridge of nose. "The smell. It's on you."

Ryohei was about to part lips to inquire when he recalled what scent Yamato was informing him. He sniffed everywhere on himself, even the underarms, but there was no such smell on him. "You must be kidding me."

"Try walking around the city, and if you found anyone looking at you, you are targeted." Yamato crossed his arms and snarled, "There's an Omega scent on you."
