This Isn't Goodbye, I Promise [2]

[ALEX]

"Ma, pa, we're here," Alex said when they got to the airstrip. The place was quiet, save for the sound from their SUV. He walked out and looked around, before he and his brother opened the car doors for their parents.

Today was going to be absolutely lonely. There wouldn't be any more random phone calls from their mother to remind them to eat. They wouldn't be scolded for not getting enough sleep and their phones would be snatched when they were eating, so as to have a proper meal.

Alex looked at his mother and he knew he would miss a lot of things about their little family. He knew this was for the best, but why the hell did it hurt so bad? Why did he feel like it would be literally years before he could talk to his parents again?
