The great Sphinx of Giza stood high and unbothered under the gold hue of glistening sunlight. From the front it was just a limestone statue of a human head with the traditional egyptian headpiece but what made it appear uncanny was its backside which consisted of a body of a lion or cat in a sitting position.
There was a huge Pyramid right behind the Sphinx's statue and some other smaller ones alongside. The smaller ones have been excavated with the help of archeologists of the time. The process resulted in discovery of many valuable items including jewels and a hefty amount of gold-made objects.
All was declared as the property of the Royals as they were the leftovers of their ancestors that have been found mummified along with their belongings. The articles holding historical importance were restored, preserved and protected by the Royals themselves and this practice has been carried on from decades with the responsibility passed on from generation to generation.
The great Pyramid and the Sphinx statue however was still a mystery. Latest studies by the professionals suggested that there must be something important hidden inside the great Pyramid which has a strange power protecting it that no man who dared enter it has ever returned.
Same was the case with the Sphinx statue but archeologists have succeeded in locating two secret chambers buried deep down right underneath it. One of them resides right under the extended arms of the statue that rests before its body on the ground and the other seems to be interlinked with the first but goes deeper down in the ground.
The process however remained limited to the extent of location and was never able to set into the action of discovery. There were horrifying tales about the uncanny beings seen roaming around and protecting the place. Some believed them and some thought they were mere illusions of the desert travellers but those who didn't believe, were too scared to flap a wing near the place as well.
The Queen was one of those who never believed in the superficial rumors and was hellbound on finding whatever these mysterious pieces of history were hiding underneath.
That 'whatever' according to her was a huge treasure after she decoded a few stoned manuscripts that had been preserved in the old museum. The writings didn't say anything outright but suggested something about 'the man's biggest treasure'.
A few miles away from the mighty Sphinx, there were men dressed in suitable clothing for hard work and could be seen drilling the dunes with heavy machinery. One of them that seemed to be in charge was continuously giving instructions and observing the work occasionally.
There was a shelter from the Sunlight on one side where food and water was being provided to half of them while the other half worked. It was a practice that carried out vise-versa till the night.
"Hurry up! We have got strict orders from the Queen. We have to reach target number 1 before the sun sets." The incharge shouted, striding past working men and patting their backs.
Right then a boy came running towards him with a mobile phone in his hand. With the look on the boy's face, he could tell it was someone important. The man took the phone and pressed it to his ear.
"How long will it take to get there?" A manly voice from the other side asked.
"We are just a few kilometers away from the first chamber. I shall keep you informed about the latest up-"
The man couldn't complete his sentence as he heard a loud banging noise followed by a violent ground shake. The phone fell off his hands as he barely managed to stop himself from face-palming the hot sand.
Suddenly a hustle broke out among the men who were running here and there terrified, leaving the machinery behind and shouting incomprehensive sentences.
"What happened?!" The man tried to stop one of them but he pushed him violently, running away as if something or someone was behind him.
Fixing his cap that almost flew off due to the push, the incharge looked up to see weird looking birds circling above their heads, in the sky. He squinted his eyes as he couldn't understand if it was the sunlight or were they actually glowing.
As soon as his eyes traveled down and ahead of him, his eyes spread unnaturally and mouth flung open, goosebumps erupting through every inch of his body.
"M-may God protect us…"
