As I step off the bus, I look up at my school. I do this every morning just to admire the sign over the top of the doors as I look for my name. At the beginning of the year, they make all the freshmen sign it. Kind of like a promise that we will all graduate. I know I'm going to graduate, though.
"Welcome to Newoak High"
The sign says. I spot my name on the upper left corner. As I'm about to walk into the school I hear my name.
"Leah wait up!"
I turn around and see Carmen, my best friend since 4th grade. She's with our other 2 friends, Alana and Anna. The twins. Me and Carmen have been best friends since elementary, but we just met the twins in 8th grade.
I catch up with them to ask if they made second cuts for tryouts as well.
"Yes of course."
Replies Carmen.
"Yea definitely."
Says Anna. I look at Alana and she doesn't look as happy though, I'm guessing she wasn't as lucky as her twin. Most friend groups would try to comfort her, and tell her it's okay. But not us. We'll make fun of it, that's how we play.
"How did you manage to get cut from Varsity AND JV?"
I laughed. The rest of the group giggled and followed with similar comments. Alana starts to cheer up and laugh with us, I told you that's how we play. As we turn the corner to go to homeroom, we see Jordan Hickory.
Jordan Hickory. He plays on the boys basketball team, they finished their tryouts last week. He use to be close with me and Carmen, on account of we all lived on the same cul de sac when we were younger. But he moved away and Carmen did too soon after. Obviously, I kept in contact with Carmen. Jordan? Not as much. Carmen used to always poke fun at me because I liked him so much when we were about 9 years old. Now he only hangs out with the No Brainers.
The No Brainers. They are the most popular group in the school. They aren't very smart, hence the nickname. They are pretty though, so they get a lot of male attention. They get attention from the smart guys, they do their homework for them. They get attention from the rich guys, they help them uphold their lavish lifestyle. They even get attention from some teachers, so they get a lot of A's on their work. But most of all they get a lot of attention from Jordan.
As the bell rings Alana, Anna, Carmen, and I split ways to head over to homeroom. I'll catch up to them at lunch time. But right now I have to get to class.
