While I was cleaning Nokto's room, he went back to sleep as if nothing happened seeing as he prefers to ignore everyone.
(Now that I think about it, isn't it breakfast time?)
When I looked at the door, there were no signs of anyone entering.
After narrowing my eyes in frustration, I put up a wide smile and turned to Nokto who was resting on the bed, not actually sleeping.
"It appears that your breakfast has not yet been served, young master. I'll look into it and return as soon as possible!"
After leaving the room without hearing his response, I walked to the kitchen to find a few maids chatting lightly while laughing about some useless things.
Veins appeared on my forehead when I realized how relaxed they were, and I clenched my palm into a fist.
(Nokto could be starving and suffering right now, but look at them!)
They turned their attention toward me the moment they noticed my presence entering the kitchen.
"Ah, you're the new maid that serve under the young master personally, right?"
One of them questioned, her tone light and her face lit up with a knowing smile.
"Yes, my name is Bell Gratia."
I introduced myself with a nod, doing my hardest to mask the rage that was building up inside of me.
One of them chukled and made a mocking smile after hearing me introduce myself.
"How unlucky~"
"You're wrong."
My tone was low and bitter at the end, but I completely changed it and put a bright smile on my face.
"Actually, I was quite fortunate to serve under young master personally, as I was paid significantly more than the average employee."
I laughed softly, but it was supposed to convey my true feelings about becoming Nokto's maid.
I want these shit heads to know that I'm happy with my job and pleased with it.
"So, please just mind your own business."
(Please just fuck off, for short.)
They were taken aback by my reaction, and they appeared to be wary of me now.
The kitchen fell silent until one of them spoke up.
"So, why are you here?"
"Ah, yes, of course. The young master's breakfast is not served. I would like to serve him his breakfast, please."
I continued to smile, while cursing them deep beneath my heart.
Since this was mentioned in the novel, I assumed they merely serve him his meals whenever they feel like it.
But seeing it directly makes my blood boil so badly that I feel compelled to slap these stupid servants.
"Ah, his food. Just a moment."
One of the maids got up from her seat and hurriedly prepared Nokto's breakfast.
(... There's not even a chef here.)
(This kind of treatment he received... really sucks.)
The maid finally handed me the tray with food to serve to Nokto after a long delay, but as soon as I saw it, my eyes widened in disgust.
"This...!"
On the tray was a piece of bread that looks hard to eat along with an expired glass of milk.
The more I looked at his food, the more my hands trembled beneath the tray.
I cautiously lifted my head toward the maid, who had finished preparing his meal but was still looking at me curiously.
"What? Oh— you're still new here but I'll tell you that the young master's food don't matter. Just hand it over to him, and he'll eat it like a good boy."
(This bitch...)
"Ah, is that so?"
I kept my emotions contained once more while maintaining a polite smile.
"I understand. Thank you for telling me."
I thanked her and gave everyone a kind nod before exiting the kitchen with the tray in hand.
(Do you guys really think I would give this shitty foods to Nokto?)
My eyes narrowed, and my grasp on the tray became firmer.
(This food isn't even appropriate for a human to consume.)
I throw the bread and milk in a nearby rubbish can after making sure I was fully alone, gritting my teeth in irritation.
I decided to wait until those maids left the kitchen before stealing some nice food and give it to Nokto.
***
"Young master, I'm really sorry that I'm late!"
I walked into his room with a troubled expression on my face, carrying a tray with decent meals.
A good bread and good milk, along with a few cookies I found in the kitchen.
(Those maids really took a while to leave the kitchen!)
Nokto, on the other hand, was still lying in his bed, uninterested.
(... If this in the modern days and he's not an abandoned child, he looks like a NEET.)
I sighed deeply as I set the tray on the table beside his bed and a mischievous thought crossed my mind.
As I approached his bed, I firmly grasped the sheets that's covering him. Soon after, I used all of my effort to remove it from his reach, which I was able to do effectively.
The moment I pulled up the blanket, his handsome features was revealed once again, with another startled expression, his violet eyes widening in confusion.
"W-what the hell are you doing?!"
He shouted at me angrily and I playfully smiled in return, pointing the tray beside his bed.
"For you to eat breakfast, young master!"
I answered enthusiastically as I walked over to the table to take the tray and set it down infront of him on the bed.
He observed my movements, his gaze on the tray and moved to mine.
"Enjoy your breakfast."
"I don't need it, leave."
"Enjoy your breakfast."
"I don't-"
"Enjoy your breakfast."
I continued to smile at him, repeating my previous statement that made his eyebrows twitched in displeasure.
"I said I don't—"
Before he could even finish his lines, his stomach growled that filled in the silence between us.
He was silent in embarrassment, and I smiled knowingly.
"My~ what's that noise earlier? Is it the stomach begging for the food to be eaten infront of the young master?"
I covered my mouth, widening my eyes in purpose with a teasing voice.
The moment I finished my sentence, his cheeks flushed immediately from embarrassment.
(Cute.)
I chuckled to his reaction and smiled at him gently.
"Young master, please eat so you can satisfy your stomach. Besides, I choose young master's breakfast carefully."
He eyed the food skeptically, as if wondering why would I serve him good breakfast and it saddened me to know that.
He seems hesitant, staying silent after looking at the food and I looked at him, my expression thoughtful.
"If young master is hesitant that it'll be poisoned, then I will be eating first. Why don't young master share the bread into two and choose one of the cookies for me to eat? I will also drink from the same glass if young master doesn't mind."
He looked at me with wide eyes, as if I had shocked him by offering such a thing.
(This is the very least I could do to earn his trust.)
Nonetheless, Nokto splits the bread in half without saying anything further and hands it to me first, as if he expected me to eat it before him.
I eagerly accepted the bread from him and ate a large portion because I was also hungry.
(Oh, this bread is so tasty! I'm sure Nokto would be happy to eat it!)
After eating it, I smiled to myself, but Nokto continued to peer at me, as though inspecting me.
Eventually he took one of the cookies from the small bowl and handed it to me, and I accepted it and ate the entire cookie, savoring the flavor.
(It's also delicious! I have good eyes for foods!)
While I was having a good time, Nokto continued to stare at me with skepticism, as he still doesn't believe in me.
(... Well, this is understandable. The Duchess was always trying to kill him in some way.)
(The last thing I have to do is to take a sip of the milk.)
I drank a small amount of milk from the glass so that Nokto could drink it as well.
After testing everything, my smile remained steadfast now that my stomach is full, despite the fact that I only ate a small amount.
"Now, young master can eat, right?"
Despite his violet eyes, which were still filled with uncertainty and doubt, he took the bread and began to eat it silently.
I stood up from the bed with a triumphant grin, and he ate his food while silently watching my movements.
"While young master is enjoying his sweet breakfast, I will continue to clean your room!"
I winked and give him a thumbs up, but his gaze didn't waver from his doubts and I'm sad about it, but there's still so much time ahead of me.
(I'm going to lessen your pain, even if it's just a little.)
Regardless of the fact that I have no idea what he's thinking, I hope he thinks of me as a nice person.
I walked toward my broom and started to do my job, but his quiet, curious voice stopped me from doing so.
"You... why are you like this?"
